I won't go back into the rear site issue. Enough said. But now ...

I took a Weaver base off my older Remington 742 before I sold it last week (what an idiot) and am putting it on the new 7600 because I can't use the iron sights like I wanted in the heavy brush this week so I bought a Nikon 1.5-7x30 scope. And lo and behold ... screw hole number 2 doesn't line up. From the muzzle downward, the first hole lines up and the screw goes in without binding. The second hole is off by about a half a screw diameter and it won't thread. Holes three and four line up and the screw doesn't bind. If I install the base and locktite the screws what are my chances I can get through sighting in the Nikon tomorrow and hunting the last three days of the season? It's a .270 and I'm shooting only 130gr Win PHPs in it.

Will it hold? I got three days left. God I hate Remington. :(

God I hate Remington.
Don't be hate'n on Remington because of a mount problem, I would bet it is the mount that is at fault and not the receiver!
You say you have three days left? well slap that puppy together and hunt.
And, nix the loc-tite, it is not needed! But IF you feel better with loc-tite, use the blue #242, and use it sparingly.

Yeah, I did not ask, but assumed you are talking about a 1 piece mount.
If it's a two piece....I would do it, but your chances have narrowed that the single screw mount will hold, if it lets go, you could sustain damage to the receiver.

Smitty ... I just looked at the packaging and you're right. LOL. I've been so upset at Remington over the rear sight on the 7600 and the problem with the two 870s that I jumped to conclusions. LOL.

Its a one piece mount. I slapped that puppy on and will sight it tomorrow AM and go hunt'n. The way my season is going (my first) it can only get better. :D

I'm having a good time becoming re-aquainted with the woods, I'm getting some exercise, and I've made a few new friends. That's what's really important. :)

Thanks guys.
