More Ammo..

Like has been said, I'm seeing more on the shelves. But prices still generally suck. Walmart is still pretty bare, but I think that's because they don't sell handgun ammo or 223/5.56 anymore. Those are the calibers that are really getting cranked out due to economy of scale. The things like 243 come in here and there but not in quantity and they get bought up quick. 350 Legend and 270 have been around pretty much through the whole shortage when I've checked. 22lr has been back for awhile, not a huge variety but at least pretty consistent available.

I've been tossing around the idea of getting into reloading through this whole ordeal. Not that I'd be able to get components at the moment, but just to get into it as an option when it inevitably happens again.

:) That almost perfectly describes my personal target point. When decent, ball 9mm brass approaches 20¢ I will, once again, begin paying close attention with the thought of buying.

I think you may be waiting in vain if that is your standard. Between inflation and general increase in component costs, I'd be very surprised if 9mm dips back below 25¢. Hope I'm wrong on that.

Locally it's been around $18-20 a box here. Rural King in fact think has WWB listed on their site for $16.99, just have to get lucky to find it in store and save on shipping. I think $15 a box will be the new low normal

Ayup, you are almost certainly correct ... but I am sitting on a mountain of primers, propellants, cases and bullets, so. ;)

If that were not the case, I would have to wait until it appeared to have Bottomed and then reset my Target Indicators as I have had to do periodically over the course of the past 50 years. :)

Actually, when I bought those last few cases of 9x19 my purchase decisions were rooted in the lesson that my Dad taught me regarding Reloading Math in the late 60s. At that time the "8mm Mauser" cartridges cost us about a nickle each to reload (propellant/primer/bullet 1.5¢/0.6¢/2.9¢) so he told me that if I saw 8mm ammo selling for a price approaching 5¢/ea I should buy it instead of reloading it. In addition, when re-re-re-re-loading in the '60s the cases got progressively gnarlier with each iteration. <chuckle>

When I ordered those last cases of commercial 9x19 for 18¢-19¢/ea(delivered) they had crossed my Cost Line (especially with the free shipping and brass boxer cases worth ~5¢/ea), so ... ;)

Enjoy!

.410 is made for reloaders.
Factory are a low production and premium ammo, therefore, more expensive.

A few years back, Remington was loading .410 2 1/2 #6 Game Loads. At that time, they were $29.95 for 250 rounds case. Same price as the 12 and 20. I bought several cases.
Loaded in the black hull, they reload great, for several loadings. Keeps grandson and the SxS very happy.

Hopefully, they new Remington will put them back into production.

Brick and mortar prices have definitely come down a lot, but shopping online is still cheaper.

Went to the Tulsa gun. show this past weekend. There were tons of ammo; prices mostly high to ridiculous. There was a conspicuous absence of 17HMR and higher end 22 rimfire. Found some 17HMR for $39.95 per 50 and one brick for $200. Ammoseek lists it for $17. Not sure why anyone would pay $39.95 or why any vendor would think they could sell it for that much. But, it was good to see ammo in large quantities. That bodes well for prices going down as supplies increase and competition increases too.

Lots of ammo available here in the Houston area. Prices still up from 2 years ago, but down from 6 months ago.

But....can't find the darn primers I need. And lots of powder is still scarce as hen's teeth.
