More AR-15 questions, HELP NEEDED PLEASE

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to the Forum, as well as new to AR-15s. I have never done a forum before so I appologize before hand if I do stupid crap.

To be frank, I know hardly anything about the gun. I was wondering if anyone could help me and give me some advice and/or suggestions. I know I want one. Can anyone give me pro's and con's to the gun itself, as well as manufacturers. I'm pretty sure I want to build my own so that I get exactly what I want, but I dont know all of my options. I know i want the telescoping lower and an A3 top with a 16in barrel. I also know I want a compensator and not a flash suppressor. Any other things I should look for? Basically any advice is greatly appreciated.

there are so many options for what you want, it would take days to type them all. i'd suggest heading over to www.ar15.com and start by reading all the tacked posts in each topic. that will answer many of your questions and the rest can be posted in the "built it yourself" topic for instance. a wealth of knowlege over there after you wade through some flack.

If this is your first AR I'd probably recommend starting off with an assembled lower from Bushmaster, DPMS or Rock River Arms. But for the upper, I would advise going with a chrome-lined barrel as a priority; BravoCompany, CMMG or LMT as well as Bushmaster would be great picks. AR15.com is an excellent resource. There are some really knowledgeable guys on there, including some representatives from industry big-names, like Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, and DPMS. There are a good number of immature internet geeks there as well, who think a high post count is the measure of wisdom, so you really have to sort through the chaffe. The how-to threads are awesome.

The problem with AR15.com is that they are just stupid enough to not take 90% of the email addresses in current use. This means they are somewhere between a rock and a turnip in terms of intelligence. Some of us don't want to have to go through the hassle of ditching our Hotmail accounts just so we can hang out with a bunch of AR-snobs.

Completely agree with you. This is why I only lurk there.:(
 
There are good and bad on every forum. I like variety and I travel to a number of gun sites trying to learn or pass along some things I've learned. ARFCOM is an excellent resource if you stay in the AR15 section. If you end up in the General forum you might be in for a shock.

I also know someone who can give you a good deal on Surefire lights and YHM forends, front and rear sights and a few other AR goodies. As a matter of fact I've seen him here recently.

I tried AR15.com but like said earlier they don't accept all e-mail accounts. So I was shafted there. I read through as much as I could, but still didn't really find what I was looking for. Will keep looking though. Thanks for the current advice.
 
You don't need to post on AR15.com just yet. Just go on there are READ and keep on reading. Start with many of the how-to's listed throughout the site.


Get a good understanding of everything first before you form an opinion. Don't have to be expert in every little thing, just get a foundation. When you're ready to go forward, ask questions. Just about anything can be answered here if you can't make an account over there.
 
As a general rule most like the RRA lowers with NM trigger. I have two and they are sweet.

You can just buy a complete lower with the stock on it already or buy the lower with just the trigger parts installed. Then buy a stock and buffer tube somewhere else. This way you can buy a milspec buffer tube. RRA does not have milspec tubes.

I have used Bravocompany and they are great. I have spoken with the guy at CMMG and he will be supplying me with a new upper soon, he is very helpful with questions.

I bought a lower from Eaglefirearms/ and they seem to be highly spoken of also.

I am thinking of putting a compensator on my 16" also.
 
Three Round Burst Kit

I was recently looking at Bushmasters website, and found that they have a 3-round burst kit. Is that worth it, and is it legal in all states? And does it give a select fire option or is it just once you put it in, you always will fire 3 rounds upon trigger pull? Sounds fun to me :)

Before you buy anything, check out www.pof-usa.com (Patriot Ordnance Factory). They have the greatest innovation in the AR-15/M-16 since sliced bread. A fully chromed gas-piston system replaces the jam-prone "gas blowback into the operating mechanism." I might not know all the terminology but I know what a jam in a firefight is, and their "Corrosion-Resistant Operating System" sounds pretty good and is supposed to put an end to all the jammin'.

MTMilitiaman has hit the nail square on. In fact even owning the M16 fire control parts if you also own an AR15 is enough to get a felony conviction (even if they aren't installed in the gun). Bushmaster won't even sell you the parts unless you can produce a copy of your form 1 or 4, or unless you have an FFL or SOT.
 
Any gun shows in your area.Thats a good place to ask questions,at least it is where I am at. You can also see the diff. types and models.

It is a problem a lot of forums, including THR, face. If you let people use easily obtained web-based email you get a lot of people who abuse those to register multiple IDs and troll the forum. If you make people provide the personal emails that are linked to their actual identity they suddenly seem to behave in a much more civilized way.

ADCO is excellent to deal with, good prices too.

I have bushmaster lowers because my local FFL gets em cheap and they are darn good. I like RRA uppers on my bushie lowers, I have also installed the NM trigger from RRA in two bushie lowers and they are great, and easy to install.

You should look at tha 16" midlength upper in the chrome lined barrel configuration A4 or A2. I have one in A4 and its great, add the tac handle for backup iron sights and a RRA mount for your scope and you are all set.
And best of all a bayonette can be installed on a midlength. You dont need one but I hear diane fienswein and Turddy kennedy poop themselves everytime mine clicks into place on the lug.

And please get a real flashhidder the compensator is not needed since .223 has no recoil, and they are just to get around the AW ban which no longer exists.
Everytime mine hides a flash, John Kerry flinches, its sort of like sticking a pin in a voodoo doll.
 
But I like the magic potion...it does fun things to me...hehe

So flash suppressor and not compensator?...any suggestions?
