More DIY projects?

I just got done reading Preacherman's DIY ammo locker project. Looks great!

I was wondering if anyone had any other DIY projects that they might be able to share, be it ammo lockers, gun cases, shooting setups, etc. I'm sure a lot of us here would love to build our own stuff to our own specs but just don't know where to start.

I went to the PA THR shoot yesterday (had a great time!) and saw some interesting homemade stuff there, just didn't get a chance to ask how they did it.

How's about a DIY 1911. Here's some picks.

Of course that one was built by my father, not me, so I guess it would actually be a DIH - Do it him/her self. It's a Caspian aluminum frame, with a Springfield Armory upper, EGW trigger, and I'm not positive about the rest.

DIY Micro Cleaning Kit

I got one for you. A work bench/gun cleaning bench/reloading bench.

I saw a tv show once a long time ago, and it mapped out a plan for building a workbench. I like the way it went together and I remembered in my head how to to it. It turns out real sturdy and you can turn the top over or replace it if it gets ruined.

I am going to make another one soon. I could take notes of the steps and measurements next time I build one if any are interested.

You think you have problems - I have 3 workbenches.

Might be easier to build a 4th than clean the others.

Electric bore cleaner

I got these directions from "another forum"... I haven't tried it out yet, but I think I'm going to...

1/8 inch drill rod

rubber o rings to keep it insulated from the bore

2 c batteries

22 guage stranded wire (speaker wire works)

rubber electrical tape

rubber bore plugs for parkerizing available at brownells cheap (im sure there are many other ways to plug the end cheaper and easier - maybe a brass case ligned with teflon tape??)

ohm meter to make sure the rod isnt shorted to the barrel

fill the bore with ammonia and hot water

tape the 2 c batteries together with the electrical tape positive to negative (series)
tape the 2 wires to the ends of the series c batteries.

let it sit for an hour

Some other guys wrote in with alternate ideas for sealing the bore, and using things like unfinished coat hangers as the conductors, etc. Like I said, I think I'm gonna try this and see what happens...

This thread started on TFL but was linked to a continuation thread here in TFL's dying days, so it doesn't end with TLF. A few of the earlier links (Power Custom, etc) died and were repeated later. In addition to parts sources, there's at least three "overhaul articles" elsewhere on the web linked in there.

BTW, thanks for letting me shoot that .50 Beowulf and AR pistol at the PA THR shoot! I'm new to firearms and haven't had much experience with different types of firearms. It was a thrill...

Cool .. I got to shoot that Ti-framed .357 SIG at the THR get-together. Very nice gun.

Meanwhile, here's something I just whipped up today, based on an idea I saw elsewhere. It's a homemade de-mooner, to pop empties or loaded rounds out of moon clips.

The first pic shows the filing I did on a piece of 1/2" copper water pipe:

Pic no. 2 shows how it fits over a round and bears against the clip, allowing you to pop the case out with little effort:

I realized after I made it that if I'd left the pipe longer and capped the other end, it would be able to catch and hold all six cases as I unloaded the clip. That'll be v2.0.
