I was thinking of picking up a cz-52 to have some fun with because they're pretty cheap and sound like they have alot of bang to scare the others at the range. I was thinking though I already have a 10mm gun I don't shoot enough because I don't reload yet. A 135gr 10mm load can pretty much match the velocity of what comes out of the cz-52. Is the cz-52 actually any more fun to shoot than hot 10mm loads? If not maybe I should just put that $150 toward a press.

Fun is pretty much a subjective thing. However, the CZ52 is cheap to fire. I get 800 rounds for 79.97 plus shipping. That may even challenge reloading.

the other side of the coin my 135 nosler 10mm load with 12.5 grns of longshot cost about $17.00 per 100 not figuring brass, since I have plenty saved.and yes they are just as fast as the sellier & bellot 7.62s from my CZ52 1550 fps.I plan on dropping back to between 11.5 and 12 grns to ease up on guns.

Soybomb,

You can't hardly beat the cheap thrill (literally) that comes from shooting 7.62x25 rounds out of a CZ52.... It truly brings tears to the eyes of fellow shooters, particularly on in-door ranges! A true show-stopper.

In fact, I have always thought the 7.62x25 would be a great round to include in a modern firearm, particularly if the manufacturers would make an inexpensive hollow-point round for serious work.

It has always been my belief that with proper sights and a good trigger (makarov.com has parts that lighten the trigger pull, and improve the durability of the firing pin), it would be an excellent target gun, as the cartridge is supposedly effective to 100 yards. All you'd have to do is find somebody to mill the slide for bomar's or something. My vote goes for the CZ-52.

Does the 7.62x25 make the person next to you at the range jump anymore than 10mm? :D 100 rounds of new S&B 7.62 looks like its about $20 so once I have the reloading setup I probably break even on cost.

I do not know whether it makes them jump MORE than a 10mm...but I assure you that those shooting will stop what they are doing and come see what it is you are shooting when you set off a 7.62x25.

no, its about the same. If ya really want to make em jump, get a taurus 44 tracker and load 27.5 grns of ww296 behind a 200 jhp.shoot that'll make people in the lobby jump.

Between Wolf, Sellier&Bellot and Reed's JHPs and JSPs, my CZ-52 has seen around 400 rounds... I haven't noticed any particularly "nasty" muzzle blast/flash to date. Certainly nothing that will cause others at an indoor range to stop their shooting to investigate.

Sure, it's loud, but I haven't yet noticed its muzzle blast any more "nastier" than, let's say a .357Sig or even a .38 Super.
I seriously question what some folks feed their CZ-52! Mine's a pussy cat.

As far as shooting goes, my 10mm Dan Wesson CBOB feels a whole lot better in my hand, even shooting really hot loads, than a vz.52 pistol. It's not the ammo, it's that choice "slab of two by four in your hand" ergonomics that just don't really do it for me (but then my firing hand is more recoil sensitive than some due to some poorly set old broken bones, which the vz.52 seems to aggravate particularly).

My vote has to go to the CZ52...

First of all, you can get two cases of 762x25 and TWO PISTOLS for what you would even hope to spend on the least expensive, used piece in 10mm. And for a 'fun gun' that even has decent SD potential you cannot beat all that...

Imagine, a CZ-52 for each hand, and 1600 rounds of ammo..... :what:

I rest my case

I am in the process of ordering some sabots from E, Arthur Brown. This will let me shoot 223 bullets from the cz-52. I suspect I will get close to 2000 fps with a 50 grain bullet. Don't ask why I'm doing it other then I think it might be fun.

I had a small problem with my cz52. Using factory ammo the recoil would cause the safety to gouge my thumb joint fairly deep. I took the safety out and brazed it up with bronze braze. I then shaped it with my dremel and files. Then checkered it and painted it black. Now it doesn't gouge my thumb joint it just rides on top of it. and the safety is much bigger and easier to set on and off.

I really like mine. It sure lets you know when you fire it.
