I'm thinking about picking up a CZ-52 while they're still cheap and plentiful. I was wondering if anyone knew more about the difference between 7.62x25mm Tokarev and the 7.62x25mm M48 cartridge. This difference was touched on here, and is specifically mentioned in Jane's Gun Recognition Guide by Ian Hogg. There was also another thread discussing whether or not some 7.62x25 ammunition may be too hot for the CZ-52, but if the M48 is supposedly hotter than the Tokarev variation, don't you think hotter loads would be fine?

Ok...the Tokarev chambered guns are built to take the hotter of the two rounds. The Mauser 48 is a lower pressure round and you can shoot it for years in a good solid Tok. gun.....T33 or CZ52. You just wont get the same performance from it as the Tokarev 7.62 offers.

DONT SHOOT TOK. rounds in a Mauser chambered gun.......now your asking for MUCH TROUBLE and possibly bodily injury.

There is only one account of "to hotly loaded Tok ammo" Its the 52 or 53 head stamp and has much case pressure. Do a search on it here and youll find all of the info you need.

Glad to be of service.........Shoot well.

If you are referring to the Czech M48 round DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES fire it in a TT33 or Mauser M96 pistol.

The Czech M48 is a SMG round for which a pistol was designed (CZ52) since it was an easy way to keep the logisitic train to a minimum and not have to worry about pistol ammunition getting into a SMG and SMG ammunition blowing up the pistol.

Chronograph's have shown the round reaching up to 1650 fps in CZ52 pistols versus 1400 fps +- with standard 7.62x25 TT

There is some ammunition around that is TOO HOT for pistols and if memory serves it was Bulgarian and was intended for SMG or might even have been a proofing round (speculation on my part).

7.62x25 TT as loaded by the former Communist bloc can be likened to standard loaded ammunition.

CZECH M48 7.62x25 can be best described as a +P+ at a minimum.

The TT33 is not designed to handle this hyper loaded type of ammunition and would at the minimum hammer itself to bits and worst case become a handgrenade, with a fair bit of shrapnel headed your way. Same applies for firing 7.62x25 TT in a Broomhandle Mauser 96.

Hope this helps.

My bad.....It was my impression he was referring to the Mauser loading.
SMG loads are NOT recommended in standard guns. Although weve chrono'd some Hot Factory Tok loads that clock in the 1600's and the 52 had NO problems with them.

Shoot well.
