Today as I broused in a local shop, some interesting comments were made by the owner and I feel the need to inform you of them. First when I asked about the reliability of sub 4" barrels on 1911 style pistols, mentioning that I had read something about it on the internet(was on here actually) he said that when someone mentions that they look on the internet he knows right off that they know nothing about guns, because typing will cause you to lose the sensitivity in your fingers you need for a perfect trigger pull. No, I'm not making this up. The same guy told me last year that if a M1 Garand didn't shoot under 1" at 100 yards constantly he would throw it away. I overheard one of the counter guys telling a customer a story about how they have a secret signal to let each other know that there is trouble in the store, then he proceded to show him a wink/wave thing. He said that one time he was suspicious of a customer so he told the customer that it had been over 3 weeks since he had shot anyone and was getting anxious. This is a pretty well known gun store in the area. Just strange people there. Anyone else have any gunstore wisdom that they have overheard?

"USA brand magazines are cheap and they work great!"

"Colt is bankrupt and isn't producing guns anymore."

"Scherer is the OEM manufacturer of Glock magazines."

"Century builds quality rifles."
"No,it's not corrosive."
"Don't dry-fire that Smith, you will break the firing pin."
(None of these was heard at my favorite gun shop)

So where does this guy keep his trash cans?

Next time he wants to throw away a Garand, tell him I'll give him $50 for it :neener:

Headed for Darwin-Death

Overheard the owner of a local gunshop trying to hock 50 round boxes of Sellier&Bellot 9mm luger for $10.00/box(goes for about $5-6.00 elsewhere). Newbie shooter: "My friends say that they like Blazer." SHOP OWNER: "That's the worst ammo made...it'll split cases, cause dangerous malfunctions and you won't get more than two or three rounds without a jam." Here's another from the same Shop Owner: a guy came into his shop asking for ammo for his Tokarev. SHOP OWNER: "Tokarev? Never heard of it. You must mean MAKAROV." AND THIS GUY HAS OWNED THE SAME GUN SHOP FOR ABOUT THIRTY YEARS!(Before anyone flames me, bought a new S&W 9mm at this shop and actually LIKE the guy....he just needs to get onto THR and get with the program )

"Is this gun any good?"

"No."

Of course, that's from my gunsmith. He's a really good guy and knows his stuff. Wise in the ways of firearms, he is.

Allied Sporting Goods, Louisville KY 1978, Salesman was looking at the 6" Colt Python in my holster and remarked, "You know Colt is going to start doing custom Pythons next year, don'tcha? They're gonna make them in ANY caliber you want from .22 to .44 magnum."

I'm still waiting.

Local shop here in Edmonds just last month, I am looking for a pancake holster for my LW Commander. Sales guy says, "Sure is a shame Colt went bankrupt again and ain't making no more guns." Others sales guy says, "Damn shame."

What I said out loud was, "Yeah, it sure is a shame." after I walked out I finished the sentence.... "that I won't spend my money in a shop full of maroons."
:scrutiny:

When I am at the shop I will admit that there is more I don't know than I do know. If the shop owner "knows it all" find another shop. If I don't know I will tell you so and attempt to get a satisfactory answer for you. I will profer an opinion only if asked and I give it with the caveat that it is "my" opinion.

I do know the difference between a Tokarev and a Makarov pistol.;)
I want your business and I know that if I yank your chain or make you feel ill at ease you won't come back.

I tell people about this sight all the time and suggest they ask questions here as well as ask me or my boss.

I remember here in the last couple of years hearing from the shop owner: " They need to close that gun show loophole":scrutiny: BTW last time I went by he was out of business. I probabaly would have returned and bought the pistol I was looking at later that day but after hearing that I decided to take my business else where.

Ya, there are dumb people working for gun shops. But there are also dumb people shopping there. I used to work at the gun counter in a department store and I sure had some stupid customers...
