Who else has heard of a feature documentary called Michael Moore Hates America? I've read some about it on the web and it seems it's fully underway, but I wonder what the folks here know about it.

MMHA Descends on Nation’s Capital

WASHINGTON, D.C.---July 1, 2003---Filmmaker Michael Wilson visited Washington this week to film segments for his new documentary “Michael Moore Hates America.†The segments involved scholars from the Cato Institute, protestors and average citizens, and a little street hockey in front of the White House.

“If you’re telling the story of America, you go to DC,†said Wilson. “It was amazing. You have tourists in front of the White House, protestors across the street, and something that blew me away… a bunch of guys playing street hockey on Pennsylvania Avenue (because it is closed to traffic). It is absolutely the quintessential expression of America.†Wilson interviewed several protesters and even took a few shifts as goalie all while the cameras rolled.

While in DC, Wilson interviewed dozens of people for the project including Jerry Taylor and Robert Levy of the Cato Institute, a Washington think-tank. “Bob and Jerry really got into some of Michael Moore’s claims and commentary about some big-picture things. Bob is one of the smartest men I’ve ever met, and took on Moore’s ideas about guns and gun control from a Constitutionalist perspective that even Moore can’t refute,†said Wilson. In Bowling for Columbine, a film about guns in America, Moore’s sole 2nd Amendment “expert†was James Nichols, the brother of Oklahoma City bombing accomplice Terry Nichols, and an avid conspiracy theorist.

“It’s really important to me to bring in people who really know what they’re talking about when it comes to these issues and to counterbalance that with public opinion, the average citizen and Michael Moore,†Wilson said. “What I’ve found is that the public has been misinformed about a lot of issues, and Moore has used some really shaky studies and sources to prey on that, which is really deceitful and, in a way, sad.â€

Production on the documentary began in May and is scheduled to continue through the summer. Next week Wilson and his crew will be in Los Angeles to film the residents of a street called Columbine in Orang County, a place Moore trashed in his book “Downsize This.â€

Sure would like to see Moore's next movie be filmed in Iraq, Afghanistan, the West Bank or maybe Iran. Perhaps he could give us a first hand account of what it is like to ride with a suicide bomber and send back proof of the 72 virgins waiting in heaven.
