“Wayne has testified that the yacht trips were for security reasons. This was especially true of the 2013 trip as it happened just a few months after the Newtown school murders. What Wayne failed to mention in his sworn testimony is that this trip just happened to coincide with his niece’s wedding in the Bahamas and that both couples then cruised around the Bahamas afterwards.”

He feared for his life, and there was no better way to be cognizant of the situation, process the information, and make a tactical decision - having assessed the threats in his surroundings...

...by taking a cruise!

Woohoo!

Cruise!

Cruise!

Cruise!

I'm not begrudging WLP the suits or the cars (I paid my dues all those years)...but for gosh sakes, why didn't he pay for a gym membership first? -- and use it. As a member of the overweight sweaty guy club myself, I don't want another one of me lobbying the important folk. He certainly could've afforded a Hollywood personal trainer for what we've been paying him. The suits, the cars, the boats... lipstick on a pig, my friends.

This quote from the referenced article reveals the ridiculousness of WLP’s claim.

He said that trip — the first of six annual summer voyages on the yacht in the Bahamas, from 2013 to 2018 — was a “security retreat” and the only way he could be safe after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. LaPierre explained that he was under “Presidential threat without Presidential security” and that the boat “was offered” as a refuge. When he finally got to the yacht, he recalled thinking, “Thank God I’m safe, nobody can get me here.”

WLP claims the one trip was for security reasons. So what were the other five annual trips for? He did not call them security measures, because he had no way to back that up. I thought he was supposed to be a smart guy. But his answer did more to indict him than to protect him. I do hope the spurt cleans house at the NRA rather than down. If that happened I would most likely join it again.

I've been an NRA member most of my life...and I fully understand the outrage of how WLP appears to have misused (ie...graft) the funds...

Here is another take.....

I pay the NRA to fight for my 2nd Amendment rights...and while I dont always agree with some of the directions they went (Bump stocks...not fighting the Huges amendment tooth and nail 24/7 365..among some other things), I do have to say..they have done a pretty decent job for my relative small dues I pay them yearly (not a life member...but renew every year)..

So...its like this...I pay them to do the job...I expect a performance for the job...and they more or less do that job effectively enough for all the more I pay.

What they do with the money is up to them. Same goes if I hired a contractor to paint my house. Im happy with the work he did...so what do I care if he spends the money I paid him with on hookers and blow?

Same difference really....

All this does is give political points to the left, and means to weaken or destroy the single most effective gun rights organization of the last 40 years...

That said....WLP should look beyond himself in this and retired before the heat got turned up as much as it has. He has done OK...but its past time to hands to reins over to a younger more energetic person to right the ship.

Just another company out for themselves and making a buck off the little guy. I am sorry but I don't think the NRA will ever be able to beat what the govt wants if they really want it. I believe the only reason we haven't turned into Canada is fear of a civil uprising. I quit wasting my money on the NRA years ago when my hunt club quit checking for member cards.

I could be wrong, I hope I read it wrong. But WLP will get his full salary if removed, resign or retires from office for the remainder of his life.

Anyone else hear about this?

'loose

edit: I think I saw this on an investigation of the NRA's financial slide on cable TV. It seems like the higher paid staff gets a cushy retirement package also.

Why would anyone expect something different when there are examples of this sort of behavior down through the ages?

Not only “examples”… look at politics, business, unions, religions.. Wish it weren’t so but I guess police work forced me to lower my expectations… Put simply, any time we get compared to monkeys- the monkeys should feel insulted…

You haven't been paying attention, have you?

WLP has allegedly been spending the NRA's money on this stuff, not paying for it with his salary.

I can understand the sentiment about contributing to the NRA when they are under attack but I have a real problem by rewarding bad behavior. I am convinced that the leadership at the top are guilty of the charges made against them. If they are found guilty I would love to see them spend time in prison.
The truly sad part is the whole organization will probably be dismantled as a result of the NY AG's case.

I really hope that doesn't happen or another organization steps into the void left by a dismantled NRA.

Oh no...I've read exactly what's been going on..know what WLP has supposedly done.

You missed what I wrote. I don't care! If WLP blew it on hookers and blow...I still don't care...because he is being paid to do a job...one that he has..up till now, did a decent job doing. Not perfect...but well worth my yearly dues.

I also said..its time for WLP to move on...much preferably before he takes down the whole NRA with him.
