Building that houses disputed Idaho gun shop due to be sold

TWIN FALLS -- The Twin Falls Urban Renewal Agency plans to buy the building that houses a gun dealer that's at the center of a dispute that's shaped national politics.

Officials with the agency approved the plan Monday to buy Red's Trading Post's current location.

If the deal proceeds, the agency says the building could be used as a city hall. Red's would likely move, but stay in business.

Last year, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives revoked Red's license, contending the shop had repeatedly violated rules.

A federal judge intervened, saying the agency overstepped.

The case prompted U.S. Sens. Mike Crapo and Larry Craig to place holds on President Bush's 2007 nomination of federal prosecutor Michael Sullivan to lead the ATF.
