mosin inserts

I have them in 7.62x25 for both mosins and enfields. they aren't as great as they are made out to be. the casings fire form out to the adapters which causes the casing to get stuck in the adapter. I ended up having to make my own extractor setup buy drilling a hole in a 2x4 that is large enough for the x25 casing to fit through but not large enough for the 303 or x54r adapter to fit through. then placing the adapter over the hole I place a screwdriver inside and drive it down with a small hammer. the x25 casing goes through the 2x4 while the adapter stays in place...it's the best method I've found that works.

if you have a bunch of tokarev ammo laying around with nothing to shoot them out of(my situation) then the 15 dollar adapter is a great way to get rid of it but otherwise it's a pain in the butt... I guess if you think about it though, it's no more trouble than muzzle loading and you still have decent accuracy inside 100 yards.

I use them with no complaints, here is a picture of a couple I use in .308, these two are .32 ACP & .30 Carbine..........

Would you care to share your source or is this a private sale?
For 15 bucks what the heck even if you dont like them no big loss. You can always post them for resale here or elsewhere.
Have fun.

sportsmans guide is the only place I've found them for sale. they just come in a stapled shut ziplock bag with little information other than a disclaimer that you may have to lubricate the adapter to allow proper extraction. I have no idea even who the manufacturer is. I've heard that some come with an extractor but both of mine came as is. a little update. I just found out that my x25 to 54R adapter got crushed so I now I only have one for 303 brit. be careful with them.

EDIT: 303 tom, I am a little jealous, 30 carbine would be a fun round out of a 308(or in my case 30-06) but apparently that one is discontinued. now they only sell for 30 tok, 32ACP and one 22 pellet launcher for 223.

MCA sounds interesting, they offer quite a few different options. I might have to place a few orders from them. thanks for the heads up 303 tom.

I had them build me one for .303 in .32 Fed. Mag., same size bullet .312. That is when I figured out I wanted a 77/.327...........

Update guys. I bought the x25 adapter right after I started this thread. The .32 was out of stock. Anyway, I put it in my gun closet and basically forgot about it until yesterday when I found it while organizing everything in there. So I ordered some ammo last night after I found it. My favorite place to order gun related stuff only had 85gr fmj in stock. This is my question. I am just curious. Anybody have any kind of idea on what the velocity will be? I believe it said 1730ish fps put of a handgun. I do have a chrono but was hoping someone would have a ballpark number to quench my curiosity until im able to chrono it myself.

I've used the 7.62x25 adapter in 7.62x54R. It's fun in that there is no recoil and super quiet in a full length MN rifle. Accuracy wasn't all that great. One thing to consider though...I got a couple peirced primers that I thought might be attributed to not having the x25 round fully seated into the adapter. YMMV.

Try the Hammond Game Getter. This is essentially a cartridge case with an off-center primer pocket. The "primer pocket" is actually a camber for .22 rimfire, and it's offset so the center fire firing pin will set off the cartridge.

In use, you load a buckshot in the mouth of the case and a nail-settling blank in tne chamber.

Mine is in .30-06 and the Game Getter comes packaged with a die that allows you to swage buckshot to the right diameter for your rifle. It shoots 1" groups at 25 yards, right on top of the thick crosshair.

I guess the idea behind the adapters is kind of neat but at the same time I don't really see the purpose.

Buying 40 rounds of surplus 7.62x54 is in the same price range as both of the other calibers and is actually powerful and able to be fed from the magazine. From what I understand, with the case adapter you've got to load and extract each casing by hand.

the purpose is to be able to throw a box of light weight ammo in your pocket and go out and blast away at pine cones, squirrels, chipmunks, and not have to pack hearing protection or worry about recoil. they sound like a CCI stinger in 22lr so there is no ringing in your ears when you are done. there is no recoil so even children, smaller people, and even the elderly can join in on the fun. the concept is little different from muzzle loading. low volume close range plinking amd lightweight fun.

EDIT: there are also more options thank just mosin nagants. when you start getting into 30-06, 303 bit, and 308 winchester, the tokarev, 30 carbine, and 32 auto ammo becomes a lot cheaper than the parent chambering.

that's 2 dead mice with an enfield at 50 yards with open sights....Is hard for me to even see them at that range lol...nice shooting tom.

You are not going to get that kind of accuracy from a .308 bullet from a .312 barrel, that why I had em build me one for .303 Brit. to shoot .327 Fed. Mag. it has a .312 bullet, hell with the 7.65x17/.32 ACP in .308 at 30 yards I can just about drive nails, check this out........I probably pulled the one down by the tail.

303Tom,

How did you go about getting MCA to do a case they do not list in a caliber they do not list and how much did it end up costing?

I really like the idea of a .327 Magnum insert in 7.62x54.

I can not begin to say how interested I might be in say a .32 ACP or .30 carbine or 7.62x25 in 7.5 x54 French!

In the past folks on THR have complained that the 7.62 T to 7.62x54 have been very inaccurate owing to 7.62 Tok being loaded with .308 bullets. Long free bore + short bullet+ poor size match = can't be that good.

Infact I thing the long free bore is the major hold up on accuracy in these things in whatever caliber dispite your excellent results.

I used a .32 ACP in .308 with good results in a Savage 110 and found Silver tips worked most accrately but that el cheapo FMJ from whom ever worked OK call it 3 to 4 MOA. I have been curious if it might not be possible to work up a .32 ACP load with a 110 grain lead Carbine bullet like the .32 French Long folks do, but not curios enough to risk either blowing a primer or having to hammer a lead slug out of my barrel. SOmeting like one of the old pistol silhuette shooters 140 grain .30-30 bullet in a .32 H&R Magnum might be interesting in one of those adaptors as well.

I got better results with one of the .22LR adapters in .223 in a mini-14 Ranch rifle....and worse in an Colt HBAR. "Been gonna" try some 60 grain Aquila SSS in the HBAR for years and have not got a round to it.

In the past e-mails I sent to MCA remained un answered so How did you getter done?

-kBob
