I got my hands on a number of the heavy stamped dress brass buckles from a surplus site a year or so ago. Finally found a complete belt at an antique mall to see how the leather is constructed and how the hardware works. Pretty simple but effective. You can see why and how soviet sailors and soldiers used their belts in fights.
