I have a chance to get a very nice Mosin 91/30 "Sniper" at work for $100-125. It has the turned down bolt handle, but no PU scope. The scope base is still on the left side of the receiver, complete with turnscrew, but the scope mount and scope have been removed. Overall, the rifle is in very good condition.

Should I spend $100-125 on it? Does anyone have a source for original or good reproduction PU scopes and mounts?

It's not a bad price for a Mosin with a mount, but chances of it being an original, real sniper are very slim. It's more likely one of the Finnish capture 91/30's an importer refurbished as snipers years back. To be fair they were never supposed to be true fakes. It was assumed buyers down the line would know an SA marked 91/30 with a PU scope wasn't likely to be a true Russian sniper.

Here's a good article for spotting the "fakes"

I had one of these a while back, but found that PU scopes were quite pricey and hard to find. You'll likely pay more for the scope than the rifle.

Didn't CheaperThanDirt sell those scopes at one time? Use to see a whole bunch of them on the market.

BTW, I've got three of those scopes but they're all attached to my M91/30s. :)

That's the problem! You guys bought them all up and are hogging them :D

It's worth a cruise around the usual suspects to see if a new shipment of these guys has been unpacked. When I did my looking last year everyone seemed to be out and the prices were going up on Gunbroker.
