i just bought a m-38 mosin nagant and i would like to get a turned down bolt for it and make it into a hunting rifle...anyways will the turnd down bolt from a 91/30 sniper fit into the m-38

id appreciate and info

I used the Boltman for mine. Great work, and cheap using my own bolt ($47 shipped)

It's definately better to use your own bolt, as you will have no issues with checking head space, and the numbers still match.

not only for scope clearance, but it doesn't hit you so badly in the kidneys/back when you have it slung

It's also marginally quicker to chamber a new round, as your hand doesn't have to move as far while working the action.

Are the Numrich bent bolt handles just the sniper style? Because they look like they are just regular bolt handles that were heated up and bent, which just handicap the user.

But beware that the trigger pull may change. I tried to switch the bolt body for my M39, and the trigger became much too light, definitely unsafe.

ojh, if you swap the rear part of the bolt (cocking piece, I think it's called), from the old bolt onto the new one, you should have (roughly) the same trigger weight.

I did just that, but still got a hair-trigger. Yes, it is strange. Here's my guess. This is a Finnish M39, and the bolt and the receiver probably have been put together from parts of mixed origin. The original bolt body and receiver are stamped with matching numbers, so probably they are selected to fit together well. Installing another bolt body alters the clearances, and trigger feel too.

ojh, order a new sear/spring from Omega, your original was most likally honed down to match the bolt body.

Thank you for the advice, dstorm1911. However, changing the bolt body was just an experiment. When I bought the rifle, the bolt was somewhat difficult to close, and I found that the cam lug in the original bolt body seemed somewhat oversized. I bought an extra bolt body from a Finnish Army surplus shop (I live in Finland), had an intention to experiment with it, maybe polish the lug etc. But the hair-trigger phenomena quicky stopped my experiments. At the moment I'm happy with the original bolt assembly, shooting the piece has honed the action much smoother.

Hmm, this is getting quite off topic. I just wanted to warn, what may happen if one changes the bolt body.
