Well, usually at your local gun store, if not then get a FFL who will do a transfer and purchase one off the internet.

Go to Goggle products and search mosin-nagant M44
it's amazing

Unless you just dig the permanently attached folding bayonet or are interested in one for collectors purposes, I'd recommend getting the M38 instead.

Okay, so is the consensus that J&G and AIM are better places for buyers than Gunbroker and Gunsamerica? I've never done a head-to-head....

well for $80 I can get the same "collector grade ex sniper" that is advertised on GB or AA, or you pay about the same and get it from IOINC or CIA if you have your C&R, actually I think those two are currently beating the importers as they sell G+ for a flat rate and the importers are 20 -30 more currently

J&G and AIM are good people to deal with usually. M44 Mosins often are in better shape than the M38, but you don't have to deal with the attached bayonet as kragluver mentioned.

I love it when someone says "google mosin nagant M44".

Really!!!! Man, thanks for telling me that, I was completely unaware that google existed.

You could try local pawns, do you have any outlets locally that will allow them to
advertise on-line, here in Idaho they have a gun for sale section in ZIdaho.com, I just picked up my
2nd M44 this Fri. it is a 1953 Hungarian 44, it is missing the bayonet and cleaning rod,
the person I got it from removed the bayonet for whatever reason and said he will try and find it, I understand that the Hungarian are quite rare, do not know if true or not,
but it does not matter, these are nice rifles.

There aren't many m38s or m44s out there right now, classic, aim etc. doesnt seem to have any. Hopefully someone will find some and ship them stateside.

I saw your town (from above) on another website. A decent size gun show can be a good solution. Handling the merchandise is often much better than hoping for nice photos and also paying ship+FFL fees. Some of the better deals made by my very seasoned buddies are done by checking rifles On people waiting for the door to open, and being the first person to reach milsurp tables (MN, SKS, Mauser, Makarov...you name it). These guys are in their forties and fifties and have learned.
Some sellers who are out partying late on Friday often don't arrive until noon or later. Very nice examples I've seen: Yugo Mauser, Sig-Sauer 5.56, and down in Batesville MS, a LE #4 Savage (only wanted $200!).

At our Memphis September show, there were three 44s, each listed at $150.
Both the Hungarian and Romanian had bright bores and non-matching bolts, but sold by about 1300. Don't know the final sales prices. There might have been an older Chinese, but worn. A buddy's had one of the brightest bores of any milsurp I've seen.

Being target-fixated on laminated wood can distract us from waiting on the best bores/rifling.
You might be fortunate to find a nice Polish example.

I shot my Mosin M 91/59 today and got 3 inch group at 100 yd distance on sanbag rest. Ammo was Russian surplus. 45 rounds after and I was tired of the recoil. But it did give a loud boom throughout the range and heads turn everytime , lOL

you can get them on "buy now" feature off of gunbroker from $120-150.

I just picked mine up from Big 5 today, don't have a clue what it is need to do some research, but all the numbers seem to match, came with a bunch of goodies, sling, oil bottle, bayonet etc,
Going to give it a good cleaning and bring it the next range trip. Picked up a tuna can 440 rounds of ammo for $85.

The Ammo Depot in Caddo Mills, TX (by I-30, about 30 min. northeast of Rockwall) had over a dozen MNs in June. They even had a 91/59 with a bright bore.
At a gun show You can evaluate the condition.

The M44s bayonet is NOT "permanently attached". It can be moved quite easily with a screwdriver. The remaining mount can be ground off or left as is. M44s are generally cheaper and have better mores than the M38s. Unless you can score a nice Finnish model. I've seen a LOT of really nice Finns.

Shooting it gives off the shockwave like the bigger magnum rifles. Its amazing how it could turn heads while at the range.
