I could never bring myself to do that to a gun, even my Mosin. :)

She has all these bangs and scrapes on the stock but I love them. I'm still as careful with it as I am my "new" firearms.

Has anyone had any experience with URL="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110228857359&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=001"]wolff[/URL]
springs?

I have both a 1943 Izshevsk and a 1932 Tula, both 91/30's.The Tula came with a dark blue sling. Does anybody know what this is? I looked it up online and found something about a naval sling.

Went to Centerfire this week and picked up 2 more 91/30's and a 1895 revolver. They close at 5:00 but offered to stay open 20 minutes later for me over the phone Very impressed with their customer service. Not only did I hold them up an hour from leaving but they were very kind and even hand picked what I wanted with no extra charge
When I started collecting several years ago I saw pictures like these where people would have several guns and I thought they were crazy. Who needs more than 1 of the same gun?
From top to bottom on the rack are:
M44 Izevsk '43, 1891/30 Izevsk '42, '23(hex), '42, '43, Tula '34(hex)
and on the side a Izevsk 1943 revolver.
I may get around to photographing the rifles like the revolver. Takes a little more work.

Could someone ID those stamps? Also what is the wooden handle and metal blade for? It looks very similar to what I have in the garage for wood carving

The Mosin is a 1934 Tula.

That's a very fine Izhevsk made 1895 Nagant. Unlike the situation with Mosins, the Izhy Nagants are less common tan the Tulas. They were only made there a few years during the height of WWII, when plans to phase out the ancient revolvers had fallen prey to some rather large German tanks.

Should have a cleaning rod and screwdriver.

I can't precisely ID those stamps - but the stamps, as well as the "leather" material the holster is made out of, seem to be exactly the same as the ammo pouches that were included with my 91/30 Mosin.

That said, I'm told they are Soviet, from the 1950's, never issued.

Thanks guys. It did come with a cleaning rod which is I guess in it's place on the side of the holster. There is a 2 piece... I guess screwdriver (partially pictured in the bottom of the 1st pic) but can't for the life of me understand why it would be issued

Shiny 91/30's

Can't tell for sure, but the 91/30 that's shiny, has it been varnished? I've been thinking about doing that to mine just on accounta I like the look... and mine is way past serious collector since the ATI bolt /Scope mode, and my refinish of the furniture.

I'm big-time in love with Mosins. They got me through a tough time when all my guns got stolen and I felt pretty involuntarily naked.

Two of my Favorite Finns:

I've got a MN91/30 and a Chinese Type 53. Both shoot well, with the russian being a good bit better (probably due to the longer barrel and sight radius). With the 91/30 I can hit a 12" gong at 300 yards with the open sights. I mounted the T-53 with an LER scope with illuminated reticle... NICE!! Haven't had a chance to try it out at long range, but at 100 yards I can hold all shots inside a 5" circle.

I love Mosin Nagant rifles. Good budget shooters. :)

Crown question

I've heard that the crown on some MN's may need re-work, but I don't really know what that means. Can a guru explain to me? Here's what mine looks like today:

I'm wondering if I should take a Dremel stone to the inner edge to polish it?

I wouldn't mess with it unless you have the proper tools. There are a number of other steps you can take to improve accuracy before you get that extreme. Slugging the bore, checking receiver screw tightness, floating the barrel, etc.

I found that shimming the barrel with a piece of cork right at the end of the forend made a big difference on my Type 53. Went from being a 6 MOA dog to about 3-4. Until the barrel heats up, then it's back to 6 or so :)

The middle 2 were redone by myself. I think they turned out fine. After sanding and getting all the cosmo out I applied 3-8 coats of Tru-Oil and wax. The bottom one is more slippery than ice. Top is a laminate, the bottom is a normal one I got off ebay. I built the gun from parts so felt no historical connection and decided to play a little.

Traded a friend yesterday for what I consider a pristine example of 91/30's...

He was going to trade it towards a Remington 700 ADL and I told him I'd give him one of my other Nagants to take in to trade if he'd give me this one. The dealer will give him the same price either way but I just couldn't let this one slip away.

The wood is nearly perfect and the pictures simply don't do it justice, very good blue, 1939 Tula production, all matching serial numbers (including cyrillics).

I've been reading over all of the posts, and I am really considering purchasing a Mosin Nagant. What tools or accessories should I look for to come with the rifle? Also, besides the condition of the rifling, what else should I look for when looking at the gun?
