Wyld cat,if you can set up a target and rest the rifle take out the bolt and looking down the barrel and then at the sights and bore sight it to save some ammo and time at the range.

Plus that will tell you whether the windage is off before you fire it.Wish somebody would create a sight tool for adjusting the front M44 sight for windage, the regular Mosin sight tool doesn't fit.Which means tapping the sight with a hammer and brass punch and that is a timeful process plus sometimes the sight won't budge anyway.

My Mosin carbines seem to shoot best point of aim with heavy ball with rear sight adjusted best as can for 100yds while with light ball ammo even at the lowest setting they still shoot high.My long Mosin's shoot point of aim with light ball however.

Great looking Polish one you have, some say they are the best made M44's.

Buck... i love the way the light is catching on the stock. Looks nice a very nice grain.

Lionking, i'm not familiar with the terms of heavy ball and light ball. Can you please explain?

I knew i'd read something commending Polish built guns... i need to find that artical again.

Thanks Wyld. I was actually p.o.'d when I got that glare in the pic, lol. You HAVE to see the mosin after it's been oiled up and the stock gone over with old english. It's so beautiful, I almost wanna cry. Maybe if I get a decent camera I'll be able to show you someday.

Heavy ball refers to ammo with a heavier bullet grain (weight) like 182gr or 185gr while light is bullet grain around 147gr or 150gr.

I don't know how recoil sensitive you are wyldcat but you may want to get a slip on recoil pad if it bothers you.

I have fired 243's and 30-30's and loved the kick. I've been warned to expect worse but i am going to give it a go and see. If i need one then i'll look for one.

Thanks Teapot. I know in my baggy work jumper it's not so obvious. And i'm truly not offended at the mistake made. Once upon a time i liked being mistaken when i was younger. :)

Wyld_Cat: It's the pulled-back hair that does it in photos. You look like you could back-up Croc. Dundee with that bayonet attached.

The best-looking MN 44s I've ever seen, by far, are the Polish which were never touched.
Please be aware that my two Russian 44s look very good-excellent on the outside but the bores were a bit dark, with some shine, and produce terrible groups at 50 yards, like a flock of small birds.

This is why I'm extra careful to protect the bore of my LE Jungle Carbine's very shiny bore from the corrosive ammo which I shoot. Have watched an Aussie's really good videos on 'Youtube'. He is "Jollygreenslug".

M39

Hello all, I just acquired an M39 SKY marked. I detail stripped the rifle for a thorough cleaning. After assembling it back together, I noticed that there was something weird with the bolt. As I close the bolt by turning the bolt handle down, there are two "clicks." The first click would be at about 1/5 of the way down, the bolt would stop moving at the first click and if I pulled the trigger, the bolt would go all the way down. The second click would be if I manually close the bolt all the way down.

I'm not sure if the bolt was designed this way but my 91/30 doesn't have this problem at all.

Any inputs?

Thanks.

I_O... my hair is not pulled back, its cut fairly short. I just don't have it spiked up in that pick. I like it short, less time to take care of it.

I'm looking at spending the extra money buying Winchester ammo rather than the corrosive stuff. I just don't want the risk. As my OH says, if i can use it and keep it in current condition its more an investment than something that will depreciate in value.

I shall ask to be flogged 1000 times with a wet noodle Wyld Cat!

A thousand pardons for saying "man"

I keep my hair WAY short too. No maintenance troubles that way!

I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet. I was away last weekend and we're not heading out to the property until he has his SMLE. Doesn't want me to get the chance to play with mine until he has his.

But i do enjoy getting it out at night up there. We watched Enemy at the Gates last night and i really wished i had it in my hands while it was on. But we were eating tea for the first half and it just wouldn't have been practical... i might have gotten Mozzie dirty, lol.

LOL! Selfish man, doesn't want you to have anyfun, lol. I agree with wanting the Mosin in your hands while watching Enemy at the Gates. I wanted to hold mine to, so I just went in and grabbed it outta my cabinet, lol.

love my M44. i'm going to pick up a 91 at the next gun show i attend and slap some optics on it.

New m91

Hello all,

here is my NEW M91, and it is Finn marked, counterbored.

I bought it off a friend for 69.95.

We were talking about Mosins, and he said he was wanting to get one. Then he pulls this out of his closet and says, what is this? I tell him, excitedly, what it is! he was used to seeing the refurbs in all the adds, and it never occurred to him that he had one in his closet. he had bought it for $50 bucks a few years ago, and forgot about it. I told him he should keep it, or that he might get 2-3 hundred for it. he says to me, "You take it." I try to turn him down, then he insists, and settles for 69.95, so he could get one with the accessories instead, like he wants.

I'm a happy camper!

It shoots ok, dark bore, but it really shoots well with the Wolf 200 grainers.

I have a few other MN's too.

I used to shun them, but now I love them!

take care,

Tom

Well cross your fingers that this weekend has good weather.

Chris picked up his Lee Enfield today so we're keen to go shoot asap.

I passed my safety test tonight and will go and visit the local shooting club thursday night and join so by the weekend i will have my license application in the mail. Which was the other proviso of Chris buying me the ammo for Mozzie.

It's getting close...

Wyld Cat Mozzie. . . hahaha! So an Enfield and a Mosin join the family, huh? Congrats.

engravertom That is a great looking NEW M91! That rifle sure had a nice trip around the world, from the US to Russia to Finland and back again to the US.

That trip from Russia to Finland could have been measured in yards--or should I say meters. But you're right--it's interesting that these "foreign" rifles were made here and ended up back hear after almost 100 years.
