Mosin Nagant...

My only regret with buying Mosin Nagants, is that I can't afford a crate of em. Strong round, tough rifle, and they are beautiful rifles. Like I said, I would buy a crate of them if I could budget the cost.

I only have 6, well make that 5. You should have seen my dad's eyes light up when I gave him 1. A beautiful 1933 Tula that looked unfired. He was born in 33 so I couldn't resist. I told him that he has to use it moose hunting this year, with the bayonet lol.

Cut one of mine down to 22" and scoped it and put a JP recoil eliminator on it. Zeroed at 200 yards, 2MOA. Hard to beat for less than $400 and ammo for 18 cents a round.

I have two of them, a $25.00 prebubbarized one I only made a leather cheek riser for and scout scoped. The little guy is accurate, muy fun with cast boolits and is now my dedicated truck gun.

The other is a Finn Model 39 I got for 150 bucks when it was caught sleeping with a rack of 91/30 Russians at the same price. I LOL, when people say the MN is not accurate, this Model 39 would give lie to that statement very quickly. It is scary accurate and way more so than I can do justice for it.

RE: fpgt72 I am going to have to get one of those shirts....that is too funny.

I like this one too, another Finnish slap at the Ruskies.

Ammo is another thing...everything you read about surplus ammo is true....it will rust a bore quicker then you can say Jack Robinson...so remember that. That said it is very cheap and is good enough for some fun.

If you don't ever clean it, sure.

Just make sure to clean the barrel after firing, and you'll have no issues with rust from the corrosive ammo. I personally like to pour water down the bore, immerse a brass bore brush in Hoppes, scrub it thoroughly, then clean and oil it with patches. The barrels on my Mosins are in the same shape today as when I cleaned all the cosmoline out of them when I bought them.

For $80 (when on sale at Dunhams) I got a rifle, and for $145.90 (at AIM) I got 880 rounds of 7.62 X 54R (probably a lifetime supply for me). Plus tax (6-7% in Ohio)

The wood is OK, the bore is pretty clean and the rifling is good. It's more accurate than me at 50 yards (haven't had time to do the 100 yard range yet).

It came absolutely slathered in cosmoline, and all sorts of nasty electro-penciled numbers replaced the originals. The machining is rough, the bolt is hard to cycle (a rubber mallet would be useful), the trigger is long and rough, and the rifle has a noticeable kick.

And it's been GREAT fun (especially if you hold it close and tight so it doesn't slap your shoulder when you pull the trigger) for not a lot of money. A purchase I'd happily make again.

Polish ALL CONTACT areas, incl. trigger group sear plate, especially the cocking cam/ramp, with mothers mag polish and a felt wheel, lube w/ Valvoline 20-50 racing synthetic.IF you are not sure about "contact" areas, de-grease bolt assy and receiver, Sharpie Magnum 44 marker, color ENTIRE bolt assy, cycle numerous times, incl. dry firing, you will see where to apply a small amount of attention. When done, any remaining Sharpie coloring can be removed w/ lacquer thinner, acetone.
Polish the chamber w/ a bore mop and Mothers mag polish.
Trigger gets real sweet, CYCLING is on par with my FN PBR.
LIKE a WHOLE different rifle.
Accuracy problems? Crown muzzle, sometimes you have to remove .300" to get rifling to show, 11 degree crown. 147gr. Com Bloc surplus.
Adjust sights, (drift front).
Golf balls @ 100m. 91/30 Tula and Izzy M44.(bayo. retracted).
Time invested? 20 minutes per rifle.
Feeds like snot on glass, minimal effort to cycle, SMOOTH trigger pull, will let you know when it will break.
I do NOT recommend spending the money on the "Finnish" 2 stage triggers.
Buy ammo instead.
The best 20 minutes you have ever spent out of the rack.
SOOO much fun outshooten guys @ the range w/ these and Iron sights, AND they have the latest "wizbang"combos, scoped. Ask my 15 yr. old son.
Basically, you are "blueprinting" the rifle/design.
BEST DEAL OUT there.
For sure.

Damn gunny, no wonder places are selling out. I just ordered one of the Ministry of Defense 91/30's from AIM. They're sold out now so I hope my order got in before hand. My first purchase using my newly acquired C&R and my first MN.

You are doomed. :evil::evil:
I have over 50 Mosins and still don't have one of the MO (Ministry of Defense ) rifles. Heck, I don't even have an ex-sniper.

To improve the Mosin, for collector and shooter, contact Clyde at C & R Surplus Spring LLC.

Clyde is a great guy. I met him last year at Schutzenfest in Ohio. He makes the springs himself.

so after seeing a crate of these rifles for a little over $100 at my local gun store, it sparked my curiosity... yes, they are cheap compared to AK or AR but are they worth messing with? to get a new caliber of ammo and from what I understand, they aren't even that accurate... is it worth getting one when you are used to better, modern rifles?
I don`t know who`s been lying to you...............

Even if you don't clean it for like 24 hours....I know I found out the hard way...rust was already forming on the barrel when I got home.

I was out in the desert...spent the night, then the next day got home and went to clean the rifle and it already had surface rust. If I would have known I would have used some of the water to at least give it a quick shower.

Next time I go out and know I will not get home, or someplace to clean it I will use my own reloads, or other commercial ammo.

After you reload for the rifles you will get so much more out of them. They are pretty darn good rifles (if you get a good one)

boat anchor
makeshift musket
use the dog collars for your... dog
grab another bayonet and you've got russian chopsticks
bayonet = convenient stiletto knife
tomato pole
use the ammo pouch as a tool belt or wallet
use the oil bottle as a flask

is there anything you cant use a Mosin for?
