I got a visit from the brown truck of happiness today with my latest purchase from AIM, a 42 izzy. now what gets me is that it doesn't have a serial number on the receiver where it is supposed to. but the one on the floorplate is force-matched to the one on the bolt. but no forcing on the acutal gun. the number the importer put on there is there. but no actual Russian sn. Anyone ever hear of this?

Barrel Is what i meant. only a "t 0" between the year of manufacture and the Izzy(not even going to try to spell it) mark. there is an X inside of a box right above the izzy mark though, at about the 1 o'clock position. My camera wont get detail this fine, id have to wait until the AM to get quality pics.

its been scrubbed of its original markings during re arsenal ( the box with X)

its a semi common practice for mosins

For U.S. law the number the importer added to the receiver is THE serial number for that rifle. Just so you know.

"Scrubbed" mil sups are a little rare, but not *that* rare. Depending on the rifle and the country they may or may not even have had a serial number when new. Other's have had the serial number removed by the issuing government for whatever reason sometime in the past. Usually it is for some sort of "plausible deniability" so, in theory, the gun can't be traced back to that government.

They are an interesting oddity. Just know what the U.S. considers the serial number to be and you're good.
