Hey gang,

I keep telling myself not to get suckered into any more cheap guns because I want to get a Garand and BHP but I was weak today. :D

Yugo 24-47 and a Turk (I guess what's called a "1938 standard" by some importers).

This was a private sale and I got the two rifles and about 50 rds or surplus 8mm for $220.

Some pics:

The bolt handle and the receiver are matching (floorplate is a forced match) but what about the stampings on the other bolt parts? I'm guessing they don't match and are merely the last number or two of the correct serial number?

The stock stamp matches the bolt and receiver but did that come later (refurb time etc)? What is the stamp above the serial number?

My Swedish Mauser has these same crown stamps all over it...is it normal to show up on a Yugo?

How about this stock repair...makes me think the stock was on a rifle with a bent bolt or this gun had a bent bolt (maybe even aftermarket and then replaced with original? It has plenty of cosmoline in and around the bolt):

Here's the Turk...a little more rough around the edges as expected. Mixmaster parts (although the sight and sight base does match the receiver). Pretty decent wood under the grime with the exception of a small chunk out of the forend.

The bolt/threaded part that the cleaning rod screws into may be missing because it just spins in the stock and can be pulled out.

The forend "cap" is seriously pitted compared to the rest of the metal...I guess it came from a rough rifle?

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks!

I think I kept two in as-is condition. I took all the others apart for builds of other calibers. You just can't get enough mausers. Mix and match is Ok because my philosophy is that it the barrel or reciever is electro stamped with an importer then I don;t have a complely origional to worry about keeping intactl It is permanently marked as otherwise. So, there ya have it.

O well, we all have our weaknesses, but you done alright, that is kind of strange to have a Swedish Crown stamped on the knob of a bolt handle on a Yugo. You did OK............

It looks as though you did ok for the price. The Yugo 24/47 are usually found in near new refurbished condition and is an intermediate length action and usually good shooters. The special length bolt parts are harder to find.
Turkish Mauser's come in many variations, and the K.Kale stamp indicates a rifle manufactured in Turkey. It's a standard, full length action, and is usually parts compatible with german produced Mausers.
Nearly all of my conversion custom rifles are based on K.Kale Turk Mausers, and are large ring actions with small ring barrel threads, which allows Remington take off barrels to be threaded to fit.

Here's a link to a bunch of Turk information.

Thanks for the info so far.

I haven't seen 24-47s for less than $200ish from the surplus dealers lately. J&G has mismatched 24-47s for $200 (would be about $220 out the door for me). So I look at it as for the price of a 24-47 I got a Turk and a bit of ammo thrown in for free.

Haven't had an 8mm Mauser before so I've been looking for surplus ammo...sounds like I'm a couple years late to the party...SOG has some Yugo that seems to be the best price.

You obviously got suckered...

To ease your pain, I'll take them off your hands for what you paid for them. I'll even pay the postage! :D

Seriously though, congrats on the good deal.

According to Gun-Deals,com (http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=8mm+Mauser), SOG does have the cheapest surplus M47 8mm (50s vintage) and Wideners has the cheapest M75 8mm (80s or 90s vintage "sniper ammo") available. Liberty Tree supposedly had a better deal than Wideners, but they are sold out of the M75 ammo.

Even if both were built completely from spare pieces, for the price you paid I'd say it was a good deal. If they're both good shooters...great deal I'd think. Wish I could find a deal like that when I have the money available for it.

I love my Turk Mauser. It is one sweet shooting rifle. Mine was in about the same exterior condition as yours, with maybe a little more metal wear. I re-blued the metal and just cleaned up the stock, its beautiful now. The bore on mine was nearly pristine. How is yours?
