Since today we did not have school and I do not have to go to practice till 3:00
Me,dad and my grandad went to the property to test out the new-old mossy.

I loaded up the tube, racked the bolt and took aim at the target,

Bang

Bang

Bang

Click

I pulled the bolt back and whacked the stock with my hand, the shell casing fell out and I let the bolt go back home,

Bang

Bang

Click

Crap.. I repeat the process and peer into the chamber and see that the extractor failed to grab the bullet and that another bullet is lodged behind it, took out the pocket knife and fiddled around with it and 2 bullets fell out, Let the bolt go back home once more,

Nothing

Rack the bolt again

Nothing

***! I take out my knife once more and do a little more work and take out the bullet that I chambered,

Click

Rack the bolt,

Bang

Bang

Bang

Click

empty

Okay, I load up 15 more rounds in the tube, rack the bolt and all 15 fired with no problem.

I think the tube needs to be cleaned really well along with the chamber.

Next time I'll bring a camera sorry about no pics

It's certainly NOT the tube that needs cleaning, it's the chamber. The chamber is grasping your little casing so that the extractor slips off when you open the bolt. There's a varnish build-up in the chamber. Any good solvent and a wire brush will do the job.

Well after 2 hours I took the WHOLE gun apart and cleaned every nook and cranny I could find.

Minnmooney: The majority of the time was spent at the chamber, It was filthy, thanks for your advice. Do you know of any good solvents? I used this triple action cleaner and I also use remington wonder lube.

Well, nice to see another Mossberg fan here!

I have a few old Mossbergs, including a 151K that I've had for a few years and never used. It is in desperate need of a strip-and-clean attack, just have never had the free time, though someday...:D

Also have a couple of 152's, and 142's, and someday we'll clean and shoot them too...

And a mint 146B, the duplicate of my very first 22 repeater as a teenager.

All retro stuff, but enjoyable to look forward to the day when they get to the range!

Mountie: How is your 151k? Even though It jammed up today I am still happy about it. It is my own gun that I BOUGHT myself and there is no other one around here where I live. I may bee a young gun ( Bad pun intended) but I love old rifle's.

151k

Headland,

I have never fired my 151K. I bought it out of a nostalgic tie to my early teen years, when I had a couple of Mossberg 22's, and one of my hunting friends had a 151. It needs a serious cleaning, and for all I know, maybe some repairs. Physically, blueing and wood is nice for its age, bore seems good, if a bit dirty.

Unfortunately, several years have passed since I bought it, and business demands leave little time for fun these days. Somewhere in the near future my wife and I plan to sell the businesses and retire- again. :)

Then I will have the time to shoot and reload again for my centerfire guns as well. These days we manage to get to the range a couple days per month just to stay reasonably proficient.

My overall experience with Mossberg semiauto 22's is that they were mostly reliable, but I remember more than a few misfeeds, fte, etc. With a few exceptions, I think that was the norm for such guns 50-55 yrs ago when mine were made. Today's semis seem much more reliable, IMO.
