This was posted earlier in the shotgun forum. Thought it might be better here.

I just bought a Mossberg 185 KB for my son and while I was test firing it, the shells didn't feed into the chamber very well(if at all) and the magazine seems to be very loose. Can someone please give me some advise as to what may be wrong?
Thank you, David

My first guess would be that you have the wrong magazine. The story of bolt action shotguns is that of lost magazines, and almost none are available any more, of any brand, and most of those guns were discontinued 40 years ago.

You might try Gun Parts Corp (www.gunpartscorp.com) or Mossberg, but I really can't hold out too much hope. If you have gun shows in your area, you might be able to find a magazine there, but they are generally not marked even with the maker's name, let alone the model number, so it is either find someone with good inventory control, know exactly what you need, or take a chance.

Just for info, around twenty years ago I worked at a gun shop that had taken in 20 or so of those bolt shotguns in trade, and couldn't sell any because even then we couldn't get magazines.

Sorry to be negative, but if it is possible, your best bet would be to return the gun to whomever sold it to you and tell him it doesn't work and what you think is wrong. If he can come up with the proper magazine, OK, otherwise, get a refund. Feel free to show him this post if you want.
