Mossberg 500 ATP?

Hey yall. I recently bid on a 500 ATP on Gunbroker (looks like I may have the winning bid), but have never heard of an ATP. It is a wood stocked model with the corn cob type forend and an 18 1/2'' barrel. Seller advised is it brand new, but I can tell by some of the pictures it looks like it may be an older firearm....not by use, but it just appears to be finished a bit better than most 500's I have seen in person. Can anyone tell me what a 500 ATP is ?

It was the original 590 so to speak. It was the first gun Mossy made in the 500 series intended for police and military work and not pure sport. No fancy checkering, corncob forearm and all. No one really knows for sure, but the common consensus is the "TP" stood for "trench persuader" as the original was an 8 shot (7+1 Persuader config) and it had a bayonet lug. After a short time, they made a standard 5+1 that got used by a *lot* of police and prison guards etc. The gun, minus the bayonet lug, became the 7+1 Persuader and later on the 5+1 Persuader but all were intended as tactical mil/pol guns, not sport guns.

A Mossy 500 with the common synthetics front and back, a corncob on the front, is identical in form and function to the old 5+1 ATP. You can still find the plain wood stocks, but the forearms are getting to be rare.

My 500 is stamped as a 500AT. 5+1 Full plain wood furniture. Similar to ATP?
