I took the barrell off my new 500A in order to get the wood dowell out and disassembly was easy enough.

Reassembly seemed easy too, until I tested for function. Looks like I screwed something up. The shotgun no longer locks the pump when closing the action--and feels much more difficult to move the pump. What could I have done wrong (I made sure that the barrell and receiver fit flush and were seated, and also tightened the takedown screw)...

Yet, something must be wrong, based on the feel of the pump....

That site appears to give even less reassembly help than the manual (its focusing on disasembly mostly)

Still can't get it to work. I usually can figure it out with the manual, but I cannot even see the diagram well (its so small poorly & drawn in the Mossberg manual).

Is there something binding on the reciever area?
IIRC theres a screw to the sheet that helps eject
the shells. Your pressing on that lever thingy under
the trigger guard when u cycle right? Both action bars
working okay? Cool it , these things are straightforward.

I think the screw on the magazine was not in straight, causing the barrel to not be aligned perfectly. After about half a dozen tries, and being extra careful to keep the magazine screw in straight, its working. I've never had this much trouble with my Remington, I guess the Mossberg is a little more finicky.

Having said this, I got one with pretty good slide fit (not too loose), so I am happy. My last Mossberg 500A (from about 10 years ago) had a very sloppy action. This one is almost as tight as my Remington.

One thing to make sure is you have the slide about half way back when you are installing the barrel. I've never had a problem reinstalling a Mossberg barrel.
