I have a 535 SHOTGUN I picked up recently. It works just like my 20 year old 500, except it takes 3.5" 12 gauge. I can say, out of the box, it fits MUCH better than that 500 which I had to shim to get enough drop in. I'm liking the thing so far, but no hunting with it, yet, as I just got it.
Again, not a slug gun, but I reckon only the barrel is different? It's a wood/blued gun. My 500 is a camo/plastic stock waterfowl gun. I prefer Mossberg ergos, but they're also fine, functional working tools for a reasonable price. The 535 is my third. I've owned an 870 wingmaster. It didn't work any better and the ergos were much worse for a lefty. Don't like other things about 870s either regards to ergos, not just the safety. The shotgun I like better is the Browning BPS, but it's also a might heavier and slower to the shoulder and costs a little more.
Anyway, I think you'll like it.
