Bought a Hogue short stock for my Mossberg 590. Recoil pad unscrews easily. I go to unscrew the stock bolt and WOW. Will not budge. 45 minutes now with a screwdriver. What am I doing wrong?
Are you still using a screwdriver? If not maybe try pouring some oil in there and stand the gun up for a day or two so it has a chance to seep in and loosen the sucker.
Remove the trigger group. The stock will freely rotate and let you loosen the bolt. Best way using this method is to hold the bolt in place with your screwdriver or socket and then turn the receiver. When replacing the stock bolt, turn the stock approx 1/8 turn off of center and then snug the bolt with the screwdriver and then turn the stock that 1/8 turn to line it up with the triggerguard. Saves your screwdriver from getting chewed up on a tight bolt.
Are you making sure your screwdriver is in the cut on the bolt? I had problems before with my screwdriver getting stuck around the edges of the bolt, but if you spent that much time, you are probably doing it right.
