the only complaint (albeit a minor and subjective one) with the 590 series and the 8+1 capacity is that when it's fully loaded, it's a bit muzzle heavy. They also offer 6+1 capacity 590's as well. See how it feels for you and go from there. From a mechanical standpoint it's an overbuilt shotgun built to looser tolerances to allow from grit and sand etc. and still operate. It also has a mag tube fore-end cap which allows for easier cleaning (like an 870). Aftermarket replacements for the plastic safety and trigger guard are available, although not necessary imo (maybe the safety, but Mossberg seems to have fixed that 'flying safety' problem)

Ditch the fancy schmancy sights and get a model with a bead sight. Other than that, yeah, these are great reliable guns.

Nothing positive. Go buy an AR-15 if you want to play dress up but leave your shotgun the way it was born.

If you are buying it only for home defense or shooting slugs the ghost ring sights are good. They would get in the way if you were trying to shoot birds. One negative of the extended mag tube is that you won't be able to put a 28" barrel on for field use. If you buy the version with the standard mag tube, you can also use longer 835 barrels.

I have this gun with the exception of the ghost ring sights.
unless you plan on really shooting alot of slugs the sights are not needed.
mine patterns just fine at HD ranges and has yet to fail me cycling with unknown but a high round count through it already (estimate at least 4k or more rounds).

as far as modifications there are alot of things you CAN do but alot more you just shouldnt

spend the extra money on ammo and practice rinse and repeat

I have looked over the modifications numerous times and I just cant justify much more than a light and thats about it anything else is either more weight than you want or makes the gun harder to handle (like the pistol grip making it harder to access the safety)

one of the mods on here had a saying like BAUUR or something close and it was buy ammo use up repeat and im sure that will serve you more than anything you strap glue screw or otherwise mount to the gun

Ty guys so much for the info

do only ting I'm going to put on it is
Shellholder idk how its called

my father haves a Mossberg 590 mariner I like it but it is lil heavy Win fullyloaded

I went with the 18-1/2" 590 A1 (is that what you really meant?) myself and added an extension.
Try it with a Vang-Comp (there's a guy who makes a +2 on the side but no-one can really ever get a hold of him) for that 6+1. The Vang-Comp also isn't too long/unsupported near the muzzle. Whole gun is handier -- less front heavy (the barrels are intentionally dent-proof on these overall amazing guns).

I suppose the thin barreled regular 590 8+1 is still around and THAT is an EXCELLENT arm (except it needs the plastic safety replaced as soon as you get it).
