I picked up a Mossy 835 Waterfowl (28" barrel) recently. I'd like to covert it over to more of a HD shotgun, with a 20" or so barrel and a 7or 8 2.75" shell magazine tube.

A) Can I simply replace the magazine tube and barrel for a 590 or 500 matching set?
B) Can I mix and match a tube and barrel that fit a 590/500?
C) Does Mossy make a 20" barrel for the 835 using the stock 5 shell tube?

Everything for the 500 is next to impossible to find, so I'm thinking if the 590 parts will fit I'll go that route as I can locate those still

Thanks in advance!

500 and 590 close. the 835 a different cat

The 835 is overbored, and takes longer shells (3.5 inches). It has a very large diameter bore which reduces recoil on the extreme heavy shells it is designed to consume, but does not help the performance of slugs or buckshot. It is a much newer design and would not likely have much cross compatibility for parts with a 500 or 590. The last two might have some parts that are similar or same. I know very little about the 590 except it is dedicated military/HD/police design.

I guess the closest for compatibility is a Mossberg 500 and Maverick 88, they are different in country of manufacture and the safety mechanism. The barrels I believe interchange between those two. The 88 is made in Mexico.

The Maverick 88 is the least expensive of all the Mossberg tribe. They can be had in short barrel HD forms, for less than $200 last time I noticed. New barrels will run about that much.

The closest 835 model for HD might be a turkey gun with short barrel. It is likely to come in camo. The 835 is a bigger stick, not always a good trait for HD, but they are not heavy, more bulky.
