I was recently given a new Remington 870 Wingmaster that will fulfill most of my hunting needs. I was thinking of converting my Mossy 835 into an all-purpose gun for HD and hunting (deer, turkey, etc.) I want a short smooth bore around 20", but all I see out there is 24" and usually ported. I'm considering buying one of these and cutting it down to 20". Does anyone know of a better route? I will only be using 3" shells and smaller. Don't need the 3 1/2s.
Also, it has thrown a live round out the bottom (about 3 times in hundreds of rounds.) Is this an easy fix or should I just have a gunsmith look at it?

I recently bought a 835 from wal-mart that was 20" and non-ported. I think they call it the grand slam.
If you look on Mossberg's web site, I believe they list a non-ported replacement barrel available.
As for the other problem, I can't help you out. Sorry.

The "Mossie" is an excellent shotgun for HD, matter of fact most police shotguns are Mossbegs. Are you aware that most Mossgerg barrels will fit the Remington 870?
