If you only had these two choices which one would you choose for an entry lever general purpose semiautomatic shotgun, and for what reason?

no question the 390. its lighter shoots any load and reliable. some say it is more reliable then the 391 because the "tolerances" are looser. I have heard the mossberg has trouble shooting light loads.

Whichever one fits you better. They are both ultra-reliable. The Mossberg will generally shoot loads down to 7/8 oz. The Beretta 390 feels like a "price point" gun in my hands, and I am a Beretta fan. I have owned the 930 since it first came out, and have been very impressed. I have around 20,000 rounds through it from light target loads to 3'' steel and have even shot a deer with it. The gas system needs to be cleaned about every 400 rounds or so depending on the ammo. Mine has been 100% reliable even with cheap promo loads, and my light reloads as long as I clean it on schedule.

Beretta because, well, it's a Beretta.

It will hold its value should you want to sell as well

I have both, both have been reliable, and both do everything I ask of them.

This question is loaded, if you want to walk in and buy one anywhere, 930. If you want one that will take some searching to find the perfect version for you, 390.

If you want one finished out and properly fitted and finished 390. If you want a rough and ready gun you could care less what happens to it, 930.

Honestly, either one will provide yrs of service, the 390 just does it with a lot more class.

The Beretta has been a proven performer for a very long time. Competition, Field, Games it dont matter.. same cannot said about the Mossy.

Either one should be a reliable gun. My uncle had the 930 and I have a 390, and neither of us ever had a problem with either.

The 390 came with both a humpback and curved receiver. It was also sold with walnut and polymer stocks. The 3901 is a value version of the 390.

I wound up with a 930, and have been very happy with it. It shoots everything I've fed through it with no problems, 2 3/4" skeet loads to 3" Magnum, and no need for any adjustments. I think the finish is better on the Beretta, and it has the nice Beretta logo and name, but as an everyday shooter, the Mossberg is a good value for the money.

I have a Beretta 3901 and a Mossberg 930 (JM Pro)

If 3 gun competition is something that you might ever want to do, then the Mossberg is the one that I would take. You can't add a mag extension to the Beretta.

If you want a nice clays gun, hunting gun, showing gun..... The Beretta wins hands down.

Either will work for defensive uses, but you will be limited to 3+1 with most Beretta shotguns.

For 2 3/4 inch shotshells it's 3+1 for the 390 providing that you remove the hunting plug.
