These were on sale in the Dallas area back last fall for 157.99 plus tax. A absolutely great steal. Even at 180 that's great price. I bought one and its one of my most favorite long guns. Its light, powerful, not going to fret if it gets a nick or scratch though I'm still careful and fun. I have a place where I can freestyle plink and its easy to sling over the shoulder and walk around with it. Alot easier than say, a full size M1A springfield, or a Remington 700P with the heavy 26'' barrel.

Buy it. Go to walmart, they have value pack buckshot for 8.99 for 20rds or slugs for same price (2 3/4 length) you get 1 more than 3'' in your factory slide. Occasionally you will find 7 1/2 or 8 shot for 2.50 for 25rds. You can't reload it that cheap.

That is a heck of a price, and they are good guns. They lack the refinement of the 100ATR series, like adjustable trigger, and barrel flutes. All the ones I have seen have been good shooters, and the actions are pretty smooth too. I think Mossberg really did a good job breaking back into the budget rifle market with these.

Was this meant for this thread? This is a rifle BTW. I want to go with a .270

He probably figured you were talking about the Maverick shotgun, the 88. That's what comes to most people's mind when mossberg/maverick are mentioned.

That being said, I like the quality of my Maverick 88 and if their rifles are similar in quality, I'd have no problem paying $180 for one. My buddy has an ATR and it is holding up really well. Mossberg = gtg in my book.

Just my opinion but the dollar is tanking so prices will skyrocket. Again, my opinion... you find a pretty good deal now... buy now.

Sorry, long day at work. I was wondering why one would post a shotgun question, but then it really wasn't a shotgun! Haha.

Is anyone else wondering why they would name it the Maverick? Very confusing.

I've never seen one of these before. How is the accuracy? I assume the reliability isn't a question being a bolt action and all.

From the picture, it looks a lot like the Mossberg ATR-100.

I have a 2004-vintage ATR-100 in .30-06. Holds under 2"@100yds in MY hands with cheap commercial soft-point [read as Rem core-lokt 165-gr SP] hunting ammo.

My only experience with Mossberg rifles is an old .22 bolt action. Was plenty good and accurate. I own the Mav 88 12 gauge, and its durable and decent quality shotgun.

Based on my limited experience, I'd say go for it.

Just saw this. Wanted to throw out that about 8 years ago I bought a Maverick 888 or whatever from Walmart for about $140. My friend and I wanted to shoot skeet that day, but our other buddy bailed who had a 12 gauge. We figured, hey, it's Walmart, we'll make em take it back if it sucks. 8 years and about 10,000 shells through it, with only one full cleaning (plus the occasional lube). The gun has always cycled smoothly. It will go down in history as the BEST value in firearms. If anyone has not mentioned it, the gun is fully manufactured by Mossberg, and the biggest difference is that some of the parts in the Maverick are made with polymer instead of metal. I don't know how long they'll last in comparison, but for less than half the price, and considering they've made it 8 years, I'm not exactly worried.

I realize that this is the rifle question, but still, I would rank Maverick just as high as the company that is making them. Have fun.

Mossberg Maverick

I bought a brand new one at Walmart it was totaly junk never fed the shells right & ill never have another .Saying all of this does NOT apply to a Mossberg Model 500 its a great pump shotgun .But not the O88 Mavrick

I would prefer a .243 to a .270.At that price and wanting a .270, I would certainly consider buying the rifle.

Aside from price whats the difference between it and the 100 ATR. It appears the 100 ATR comes with scope in some calibers but the .30-06 doesn't show scope on the ATR or the maverick.

It is the same action as the 100ATR, the difference is that the Maverick doesn't have the adjustable LBA trigger, or fluted barrel. The finish on the metal is also duller. Should shoot just as well as the ATR.

I bought the youth model in 243 for my son, was not supposed to be on sale but I haggled them until the gave it to me for $179.00. Was pleasantly surprised with the smoothness of the bolt and trigger. It is made in Texas. The stock and metal finish leave alot to be desired but a bottle of duracoat can solve that. Topped it with Bushnell 3-9 Banner and shot some Winchester power max 100 grain through it. Grouped 1" @ 50 yards. No tack driver but I'm only $260.00 into a youth rifle. Not bad!

088 Mavrick

I wished that Moosberg made a line of single shot rifles. I would love one in 500 S&W MAGNUM .
