Got a new Mossberg MC1. Small carry pistol. Read the reviews and like the way it fit the hand. Anyhow, during breaking in, I was getting failures to return to battery, really just not locking up. A gentle nudge would complete the lock up. I was going to return it, even completed a ticket. But then I saw a youtube on replacing the guide rod with one from a Glock 43. Couldn’t hurt. It came in today.

it sure was an exact replacement. Same length, same diameter, same end sizes. Replaced it in seconds and off to the range. Put a bunch of rounds through it, no failures. The one on the bottom is the Glock one.

A good fix indeed. I'd also call Mossberg and see if they'll send you a new RSA.

Probably should have gotten a Glock instead. The Mossberg does have a good feel in the hand. Will take it out again this week to run some more rounds through it. See if it works like it should.

Interesting. There's one on consignment at a local place, at a very tempting price. I can find plenty of gun press reviews, and Youtube gun influencer type reviews, but only one "real person" gun forum review. It made a splash when introduced, then kind of drooped out of the public's attention.

With regard to the going in to battery problem, I'd want to look at surfaces where metal rubs metal. Slide rails, and the breechface (easy to forget about). Check for burrs, polish with emory cloth.

Springs involved in recoil and feed cycle are going to be working in a pretty narrow window of tolerance, in a gun that small. I don't know that there'd be a difference between the Glock and Mossberg parts, but their might be. I'd want to get the Mossberg part.

(I will say, the one I handled (mentioned above) seemed very well made. Mossberg has a century of corporate experience in manufacturing, and knows how to make stuff.)

Question on the MC1SC -- The Mossberg doesn't have the part Glock calls the "slide lock". In Glocks that's the takedown tab, and the barrel bears against it, and it keeps the slide from going forward off the frame. In the Mossberg, what keeps the slide from going moving forward off the frame in normal use. Is it banging up against the slide backplate?

I polished the rails with a little polish and a dremmel. Looking for places that showed wear. I would assume the backplate is what is keeping the slide from going forward off the rails. You pull that and then the firing pin assemble to disassemble. I had a choice. Return to Mossberg with their stated return of up to six weeks. Or buy a part for $20.00. $20 is cheaper than shipping so I figured I would try that first. It does seem slightly harder to cycle the slide which would mean the spring might be just a bit higher in resistance. Therefore having just enough to overcome that last little bit before it locks up. The slide coming forward just a bit faster to overcome the resistance.

I heard back from Mossberg from when I emailed them my troubles. They said “thanks. Let us know if we can help you further. WTH. I replied with ? I mean who says thank you when a customer has a problem. After some back and forth, they don’t have any guide rods to give or sell. Was told I could send it in (guide rod) and they would look at it.

Went to the range today. Still no failures to fire after another six mags. So, the pistol stays as is. Happy with the performance.
