My dealer called me to let me know the Mossberg MVP I had on order since last summer is finally going to show up. To me this will make for a great rifle with many features I like, most noticeably it uses AR magazines and is chambered for 5.56 and .223. Other things I like include the stock design which is well suited for bipod and rear bag use. The barrel is rifle buttoned which I feel is a superior rifling method to the more common hammer forged used on many rifles today. In addition it has a user friendly adjustable trigger.

With a 1 in 9 twist rate it should handle the 60 grain V-Max/Varget load my AR's are very fond of. Will have to sort out a scope for it but I have several that should work well with it in the scope drawer.

Just read about these the other day. Seems like a really nice rifle. I don't have a use for one but if I had the extra money I would probably be on the hunt for one.

Congrats on the new gun and I am looking forward to a range report.

I saw someone buy one from Academy a few weeks ago. They look nice enough and probably have good potential.

Color me jealous

I have been looking at these since I heard about them. Nice price point, with all the features I want. I am thinking I need to put one on order as well.
Looking forward to a review from you.

I have been on the hunt for a while now and have not been able to put my hands on one yet. Reviews give it thumbs up and accuracy seems to be pretty good. I will fondle one and probably buy when I find a tangible one.

They are just now starting to come on the market, saw one on gunbroker a couple days ago and my dealer has had one on backorder since last summer from Elliot Brother's...in fact according to their rep mine was the first on the list so I was happy to hear it had been shipped. I will pick it up this weekend. It will be a early b-day present to myself.

Im very interested on seeing how they designed the bottom metal to accept AR-15 magazines. I'd love to see something with standard DPMS style AR-10 magazines!

They may well make a big brother in .308...probably will depend on how well the 5.56 sells. I am just surprised it took this long for someone to design a bolt rifle around the AR mag, especially considering what many were willing to pay for AIC mags for custom and semi-custom rifles as well as for the new Ruger. 80 bucks for a 10 round mag is outrageous.

I wish they would make one in left hand. This rifle looks great and has alot of nice features. I would pefer in .308 but would take one in .223. I wish more manufactures would realize that lefties dont want just standard hunting rifles!!

So how long before Mossberg releases a version with a Barret "arrowhead" .50BMG muzzle brake, a side folding stock, and a 100 round dual drum magazine?

I handled one today at a LGS. I liked it. Had a nice feel, and balance to it. :D It was the property of the owner, and not for sale. :banghead:

To me the 5.56 v 223 debate is a moot argument, I know that will raise a lot of hackles but my DI's told me "the M16 fires a 5.56x45 NATO Round, 5.56x45 NATO is .223 to Cousin Kissers". They did the same when trainig us on the M-60 which fires the "7.62x51 NATO that's .308 to Cousin Kissers"
Chamber Pressures considered I don't think that Drill Instructors are told to deliberately endanger the troops they train. Their job is to teach you to survive so they don't have to train more troops.
If a weapon will handle Mil Spec chamber pressures it will handle civilian chamber pressures, or Vice Versa even though they measure and rate the two differently.
Go ahead let the argument start.
Back on topic I just had one of these rifles delivered today, I added a Bushnell Banner 6-18x50 AO and hope to have a range report for you tomorrow.

Okay. ;) Your DI didn't shot at Wal-Mart or the LGS for weapons and ammunition. They were taught to teach exactly what was needed to may you "basic". MilSpec ammo and subsequent chambers are different than the SAAMI counterpart. The different pressures created are a fact, though that doesn't always dictate catastrophic malfunction. However, "Cousin Kissers" are also known to say things like, "Ya'll hold my beer and watch this!" and are not necessarily role models for safe behavior. :D

Well all 5.56 vs .223 arguments aside I finally have my rifle in hand. My LGS called me in February to tell it had been shipped but somewhere between Davidson's and the gunshop someone got a new rifle for free via the five finger discount. However I now have rifle in hand and the Tubbs Final Finish kit is on the way.

For now a few observations. The trigger is very easy to adjust. It arrived with a very clean but slightly heavy 3 pound trigger and now it just a bit under 2 pounds with zero creep and maybe just a hair of post travel...will settle the trigger out after shooting it some.

The included magazine acts as a bolt stop when empty, the follower has square shaped form that stops the bolt unlike the tapered form on most followers. Not sure how I like that yet...but I have a supply of Colt ten round mags so if I decide I dislike it I am good. My 20 round mags seem to lock in and feed fine as well.

The mag release is a paddle in front of the mag well. pull to the rear and the mag releases. I bit different but it works well and I think it will be easy enough to get use to.

Despite the 24 inch barrel it does balance well enough the 9 pounds (including scope and loaded 20 round mag) that offhand shooting with a sling should pose no problems. The barrel is a medium profile bull so the forward rate is reduced over a rifle with a 1" barrel.

I am looking forward to trigger time with this rifle this week, I want to try an Appleseed course of fire with it as well. So far I am impressed with what it has to offer.
