Just wondering if anyone has any personal experience, or at least informed opinions, of how durable the aftermarket drilled and tapped scope rails are, on Mossbergs?

Seems to me like tapping an aluminum receiver is a recipe for disaster, so should a competent gunsmith be able to fit some kind of steel inserts into the receiver?

Would it be possible for such a mount, with steel threads in the receiver, to be strong enough for use in a "masterkey" type attachment to an AR? Not something I'm ever likely to try, but it'd be nice to know that the mount is strong enough.

I just today ran across some information that said 1996 and older Mossbergs were drilled and tapped for #6-48 TPI screws, and 1997 and newer ones use #8-40 TPI screws. That kinda suggests that the #6 screws may have been okay, but they decided to go just a tad larger. That they haven't changed it since '97 might indicate that it's working alright.

Disclaimer: The last two sentences of the above are not-necessarily-informed opinion. In the Air Force, I learned a saying about opinions . . . :p

Any in particular that you don't like, or do you mean all B-Squares? I was thinking of trying their "saddle" type mounts on an older 500A I have (not drilled and tapped) and/or my Ithaca 37.
I don't recall many negative user reviews for those on the vendor sites that host reviews, but another consideration for me is that they're Weaver configured, and something made for Pic rails may not fit.
