I have a chance to pick up one of these two 12 gauge shotguns. They are both the same price. They are both unfired and in pristine condition. The Stevens is of course older...but, again, in new condition.

OPINIONS...please. If you had to choose between the two which would you choose?

Thanks

I've had a Mossberg 88 for two years now. It has already had hundreds of rounds through it, it will fire anything from light birdshot to 3 in 1oz slugs. My Mossberg serves as my truck gun and is therefore subjected to all sorts of neglect and abuse. It even survived being dunked in a creek when i rolled my truck. The 88's are great guns. I honestly dont know about the Steven, but i have had good luck with the Mossberg.

Might be easier to find parts for a newer gun too.

Mossberg over Stevens anyday. Parts are available for Mossberg, some for Stevens. Quality better with Mossberg.

Both of those shotgun designs came about on the market at the same time.
Ask yourself this, which one is still being produced and sold new today?

Model 67 Stevens pump guns were plagued with problems, the guns just never did work very well for very long.

Some 67s are treasured by their long time owners. Many are not. QC and reliability seems a bit hit or miss.

I'd pick the 88 if that was all the choices.

However, if the field was open I'd grab an 870.

The 67 did come out long before the 88. As for problems with the 67 I have personally not had any with the three I have owned over the years. I am not a mossberg fan. A valid point was made above as to replacement parts. You mentioned they are the same price but did not mention that price. Around here both can be had like new for $150. IMO either one you get what you pay for. Personally I would spend another $100 and get an 870.
