Shooting a CZ-527 Varmint .223 with 1:12 twist and hope to be able to get MOA accuracy @100 yds with factory loads.

What is likely to be the most accurate factory load, 55gr or lighter? It looks like Rem Accutip-V 55gr boat tail is the most probable candidate, but are there other "target quality" .223 factory loads I should also try? I see PMC Bronze 55gr FMJ boat tail ammo at several sites. Is this likely to be any more accurate than standard 55gr FMJ ammo? What is a reasonable price for target grade .223 rounds? References for any good on line source of quality ammo would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

blackhills ammo has some really good stuff, and at cabelas, they have boxex of 50 for 30.00$. dosent seem to high being that a box of winchester white box is 18.00$ per 20 rounds. that stuff should shoot real well. for a little more, hornady tap ammo seems to work well in any rifle. but its on the more expensive side, and harder to find. you should try some 45 grain stuff if you can find it. hould do real well out of your 12:1 twist under 300 yards.

Anything with the jacket hole in the nose is likely to be more accurate then FMJ with the jacket hole in the base.

I'd look for any of the plastic tip loads, or match HP, followed by SP hunting ammo.

V-Max, Nosler Ballistic-Tip, TAP, etc.

My 6 pound CZ-527 American shoots one hole groups with either V-Max or Ballistic-Tip handloads.

I don't shoot factory loads, so can't tell you what they will do, but what I said will give you the best chance.

I have used both the Hornady 55gr Training ammo and the Hornady 55gr TAP and the best groups (5 rds) at 100yds were under 1". More typical perfornance is between 1-1.5" for me; but I think that is moreshooter than ammo.

Rarely can a FMJ load be as accurate as a BTHP or a ballistic tip loaded round. It's just the nature of the bullet construction.
With a 1in12 twist, it's necessary to use 60gr and lighter for optimum potential.
Some of the flat based HP of 52-53gr offer surprising accuracy, but the trend is boat tail styled rounds.
Black Hills ammo, either Red Box or Blue Box offer good performance for the buck with their 52gr match loads.

Ya, and what rcmodel said.

One of the real factors with accuracy is consistency. The manufacturers like Black Hills provide ammunition that has relatively little variation in bullet mass, construction, powder measure etc etc.

The only way to better that is to reload yourself.

Consistent rounds makes for consistent accuracy potential

A couple of my .223's really like the Black Hills 52 gr. BTHP load, even the reload version shoots really well. I also shoot their 55gr. SP load quite a bit.

Everything BH is very good. I shoot a lot of the blue box, or at least, used to...

there will be 3 that will do it for you;
Winchester , white big box, 45 grain varmints, 40 per box.
I have a stockpile of these, and bought them 4 years ago, when they were 9.46 a box. Now they are 40.
Black hills blue box, plain jane 55 grainers, 50 per box.
remmy/umc plain green box, 55 grainers.
Lastly the wolf, both 55 and 62 grainers; suprisingly I got better consistency out of the 62 grainers, than the 55, but you could tell the 62 grainers were just barely hanging on still. Just about to blow out of the 1/12 hold.

that is a Tasco Varmint series, 6x24 scope up top. this was done with
sandbag rests at 100 yds. As you can see, the winnies were going into single
holes!!!! I was freakin and shakin at the same time. I was afraid to pull a 5
shot group, for fear of opening up a great group. The wolf 62's were suprising
good, and they will anchor your subject from a decent distance.
then winnies inside of 300 yards , however, is a laser shot.
Oh yeah, I bought the plane Jane black hills boxes also 4 years ago, when they were
13 dollars a box. Expect over 40 now. so to the above dude, I know exactly what you mean,
when you say you used to shoot a lot of them... I don't touch mine now.

outside of the ammo I have listed; look for something hollowpointy, 55 grains or less. that's why the big white box winnies are so good, they are hollow and 45 grains.

I have gotten pretty good results with Fiochhi .223 ammo.

Personally I cannot see too big a difference between High priced ammo and cheaper Russian ammo besides cleanliness. I shoot the better stuff a touch tighter but not too much.

Thanks all.

Should anyone know where any BH .223 52gr BTHP's can be had, please let me know -- I'd like to try some of these 4 sure.

I will most likely be doing most of my shooting with my bulk UMC 55gr FMJ's and Georgia Arms Canned heat 55gr, but I have ordered some Canned Heat 55gr Hornady V-Max and some BVAC 55gr V-Max to try, and I will add some of the Black Hills as I find it in stock.

if you have a gander mtn, or bass pro, or Dicks' in your area, I would check them first. Secondly, if you have a gunspecific store, that is big, or a gunspecific/chain store in your area, they may have them.
Like here in Houston, they have Carter's Country (s), which is a guns and hunting store. they have 3 of them in the houston area, and carry and extensive arry of ammo.
