i bought several hundred rounds of speer .223 loaded with 65gr boat tail soft point bullets for my ar-15 with a 1x7.5 twist. i wanted to see how they shot in my 700 to maybe use in deer season, my 700 remington sps .223 has a 1x12 twist and from a bench rest at 50 yards, they were low and to the right with one looking like it was starting to tumble. i then fired two rounds of 55gr remington .223 FMJ rounds . the 223 fmj,s went into the same hole just where i had the rifle sighted in for about a inch high at 50 yards. eastbank.

Proving again that 1:12 is too slow for 65s and just right for 55s.

BTW, my 700T is 1:9 and should shoot the 65s just fine. I'll have to try them sometime.

My RRA 1:9 won't stabilize 70 grain Barnes TSX at 50 yds. It shoots 62 grain really well though beyond 100 yds. Not sure if 1:9 will stabilize 65 grain ammo. I've been told that 1:8 will handle 70 grain ammo just fine. If u want to shoot heavier .223 ammo, you will probably need a 1:8 or 1:7 barrel twist.

I've used the 65gr GK in my 18.5"bbl 1/12" twist Mod-7.

It shoots 1.25-1.5moa at 100yds. I've not seen any sign of key-holing with it. I've taken a number of deer with no bullets recovered and no deer lost. All one-shot kills.

Sierra states on box that the bullet "requires" a 1/10" twist barrel to stabilize, but I've also gotten "acceptable" accuracy from my 1/14" twist .22-250.
I didn't know that Speer had a 65gr BtSpt. (Fusion ??? that could be the problem!).

It's probably just your barrel, but it could be the load itself. If m/v is below ~2,700fps it may not be going fast enough to initially stabilize.

My loads run them 2,900fps from 18.5"bbl (Reloader15) and 3,400fps from 22-250 (H380).
However, I got a bunch of 63gr Semi-pt Sierra's on sale a while back and they are 1moa from the Remington, 1/2moa from a Mossy MVP (20"bbl 1/9"twist) and 1/2moa from the .22-250.

Maybe you could pull them and reload them with a 'faster' load and get stabilization.

i fired 3 shots today at 100yds with the 55gr and they went into a 1.25" group out of the 700sps about a inch high. the rem 700 don,t like the 65gr bullets. i,m just going use the 65gr speer in my 1x9 and 1x7 twist ar,s. eastbank.
