Most pleasant to shoot .45 ACP?

another vote for the CZ97B. If it fits you, go for it. Everyone says they're huge, but the are the same size as a Beretta 96, so...

It is a heavy gun too. But that is great for range work! It is very mild recoiling. I have fired a Sig 220, Beretta Courgar, and Kimber Gold Match, and I thought the all recoiled more than the 97, using the same 230 grain loads.

Another vote for the big N frames:

50 shots per target, 15 yards, single action, 4.9 grns of bullseye on a 230 rem FMJ. Great shooting Pre-25!

I have three handguns chambered for .45 ACP:

  • S&W Model 625, 5" barrel
  • Springfield M1911A1 Loaded
  • Ruger P-90

Off the three, the M-625 may be the most accurate (AAMOF it is probably the most accurate handgun I've ever shot). The Springfield is a close second and has an outstanding trigger. The Ruger is too new for me to really judge how accurate it is, but it definitely has the least perceived recoil.

The most "pleasant" shooting 45 in my experience is the HK Expert. Not much in the way of value however.

I have found any 5 inch govt. model 1911 with a steel frame to be very pleasant. Also, the 220 Sig is a pleasant shooter, for being so lightweight.

Stay away from the shortest 1911s, they're easy to carry but have reliability issues and are very big on muzzle flip and not pleasant to shoot, on the whole.

The Sig 220ST is the most soft shooting, accurate out of the box 45ACP pistol that own and shoot. It feels like a 9mm pistol but your shooting a big ole 45 bullet.
