I was wondering if .45 acp tracker from taurus can use all the .45 acp ammo and if anyone had experience shooting these cartridges in this gun or another .45 revolver ie SW 625.

This would include:

.45 super

.450 smc

.45 winchester magnum

.450 autobond

.45 GAP

dont think it can use .45 auto rim but hell when is the last time i saw that.

Btw I am not gonna get a .44 magnum as I dont usually need that level of power and .45acp is a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to find than .44 special.

The gun is designed to shoot 45ACP using moon clips. Nothing rimmed. You could shoot 45GAP in it, being that it is just like 45ACP, only shorter. As for the other rounds you mentioned, I would do some research before I would try.

.45 super - basically a ++P++ .45 ACP. The pistol will handle it, but a steady diet would result in increased wear and parts breakage.

.450 smc - same as the .45 Super, but with a small pistol primer.

.45 winchester magnum - probably too long to chamber. The .45 Winchester Magnum develops pressures around 38,000 CUP, which is more than the accepted max chamber pressure for the .44 Magnum. Not recommended.

.450 autobond - a light bullet at high velocity in a .45 ACP case. Probably doable, but again a steady diet is not recommended.

.45 GAP -- yes. The GAP is a shortened .45 ACP with slightly elevated pressure. The moon clips will correctly headspace this cartridge.

I would add that the .45 Auto Rim should work fine in the Taurus Tracker - it's just that you don't have to use the moon clips to hold the cartridges in place.

Not sure about he Taurus, but that's what the auto rim was developed for in the first place.

The headspace on the Taurus is to small to allow the cylinder to close on the Auto Rim. I don''t know why Taurus makes tham that way, but they do.
