Most reliable AR15 trigger upgrade?

I also like the regular Rock River NM trigger. It is not adjustable, so there are no extra parts to worry about, but it is smooth and breaks clean.

It has the standard BM trigger that isn't great ... although it may be reliable.
I agree the standard Bushamster triggers are terrible. I built two lowers with BM parts kits and later replaced them with the RRA NM triggers. It was a very refreshing improvement.

BM makes some pretty decent stuff otherwise, I don't know why they have such crappy triggers. Even DPMS triggers are smoother.

Not to hijack this thread, but what triger for an long range fighting gun. Im building my take on a USMA SAMR. I guess Im looking for the "fighting match" trigger.

I've heard nothing but good things about the RAA 2 stage trigger. For a single stage trigger, it's hard to beat Chip McCormick. They usually run about 3 pound pull, but you can get them heavier too, I don't think they make them lower than 3 pounds..

I have two RRA two stage triggers that came with the guns and they work great. I have two CMMG two stage triggers that I installed and they work great also.

Any of the recommendation in the thread. You need to decide whether you want a single stage or two stage trigger.

Accuracy Speaks

Derick Martin and his shop ACCURACY SPEAKS have been building and shooting match guns longer then the EBR trend has been around.
Derick builds a fine trigger.

For a "fighting gun" I would stick with the Mil Spec parts or civilian parts and just clean up the surfaces or have them cleaned up. You can acheive 3-4 lbs pull with the Mil spec parts.
I have 2 RRA 2 stage triggers that are very reliable but don't kno if they are good for a "fighting gun"

Send your trigger and $50 to

http://www.triggerwork.net/ar15s.html

Then in one week you will be sending the rest of your AR triggers to him.

I have the $200 Timney and Bills work is almost as good. I wasted $150.

I got Bill to clean up the trigger on my XCR for $50, and the improvement was indeed huge. He took the heavy, inconsistent two stage, and turned it into a single stage with an nice even break around 4#. Very nice. It has never let me down, but I don't have a huge number of rounds through it either. I have no idea what the long term reliability will be like.

What is the full name of the "SSA" trigger? I am looking at a couple different vendor sites and don't see it.

Wilson Combat

Wilson Combat has a new drop in trigger module, that is non adjustable and is intended for "hard use". I have both the 2 stage and the single stage, and am very pleased. It's not as light or "short" as the Timney, but I have had Timney's and McCormick's triggers double in my guns, and after over 1k rounds through each of my WC triggers, no such troubles.

And the reset, especially in the single stage, is "energetic";)

so wilson combat came out with a drop in trigger that's not adjustable for hard use, not light, not short, and resets quickly?? interesting! it's about time they did something useful. is the single stage crisp?

Like a bunch of others, I say go with a Geissele. I use a their 2-stage trigger in my AR-15 and love it. Best trigger break I've found and rock solid construction.

I've read that Geissele has a rig that does trigger pulls, and that they test their triggers in the range of 200,000 pulls ... with no notable wear. Hammer and trigger springs should be replaced in the 10K range, and most other triggers out there are shot in the 10K range as well from what I gather, including specifically the RRA 2-stage (I remember that part because I have a couple).

I don't have sources, but read a lot on ar15.com and m4carbine before buying a couple Geissele triggers, they're just to expensive not to research before buying. If you mean it when you say you want reliable, I'd say Geissele is the best options available.

which geissele triggers are you talking about, turbo?

All of them ...

I'm speaking in generalities, not specifics since I don't have the data in front of me and it's been 8 months or so since I read it ... but that's the gist of it. I don't shoot an AR competitively, so I don't have the Hi-Speed trigger, I have a couple of the Combat triggers and absolutely love them. Even though they're non-adjustable, the pull out of the bag is better than any of my other triggers ... RRA 2-stage, WOA tuned RRA, LMT 2-stage, Bill Springfield tuned RRA 2-stage and single stage.

i haven't heard that about their SSA/F triggers, but I've seen a couple hi-speed triggers fail first-hand. they're not magic, just really, really crisp (with a pretty respectable lock time).

Before you start spending folding money, have you first tried something like flushing out the trigger group with brake cleaner and then carefully and sparingly lubing the appropriate places with Wilson Ultima-Lube or similar product? This doesn't work miracles, but it may give you a trigger you can live with for very, very little money.

Very crisp

Taliv,
The WC trigger is VERY crisp. I like the single stage best, but the 2 stage is interesting......it feels more like a good 1911 trigger. The first stage is really just light "pre-travel" like a 1911, then it hits a wall, and take 4 lbs to break after that. It feels pretty natural to a experienced 1911 shooter.

Like I mentioned before, I still like the single stage best. Crisp, 4 lbs, and a positive, 'audible' re-set. Both the single and double stage have secondary- "rescue- sears" to prevent failure in extreme cases.

WC has an online rep who monitors the WC sub forums on arfcom and m4carbine.net who told me about the triggers.

i might just have to get one...

thanks for the heads up! i'll try to call them this week and check on availability
