Most reliable AR15 trigger upgrade?

It's not as light or "short" as the Timney, but I have had Timney's and McCormick's triggers double in my guns

I've had this happen with my Timney trigger too but I'm not sure if it's my poor technique or the fault of the trigger. The trigger breaks really well but I have to make a conscious effort to hold the trigger back until the recoil event is over. I doubled twice in yesterdays match at the 200 yard line during the rapid stage (10 shots in 60 seconds). I really thought about the trigger during the 300 yard stage (10 shots in 70 seconds) and had no issues. I shoot bolt action rifles with Jewell triggers for the most part, so all I focus on is a consistent pull and don't give much thought to the follow through.

:)

1858, interesting. was your trigger set at least minimum 4.5 lbs for service rifle?

taliv, I don't shoot service rifle matches (not yet anyway). I participate in what the match organizers call a "tactical class" since we use optics, bipods etc but we shoot at F-Class targets using the service rifle course of fire ... confusing I know. I was using my AR this past Sunday since my .308 bolt rifle is having surgery. A friend just bought a couple of Geissele SSA triggers when he was at Camp Perry last week. He offered to let me install one of them in my POF AR to try it out.

:)

The SSA and SSF triggers I have were all right at 5 pounds. I had a bunch of other springs to change the weigt, but 5# was what I was looking for, so...

Are those trigger jobs by Bill Springfield suitable for self defense/SHTF rifles?

Geissele.

I use a two-stage in my AR-15 and it is superb in every respect. I installed it, never adjusted it, and it breaks like glass every time.

A consistent, crisp trigger will do great things for your groups. And if you're shooting for keeps -- for your life -- that consistency will promote accuracy that may indeed be the difference between life and death.

I've been using the Geissele SSA trigger in my POF for a couple of months now and if you're looking for a non-adjustable 2-stage trigger it's hard to beat. I have a Jewell adjustable 2-stage trigger in another AR and it's excellent also, and I'd say that it's smoother than the Geissele SSA, but I'll be ordering a couple of the SSAs for the POF in .223 and my other POF in .308 ... that's how much I like this trigger.

:)

Slightly different tack here - if I just want the most reliable and durable AR15 trigger, including standard mil-style triggers, who can I buy the top quality basic parts from? The only lower parts kits I can readily find are DPMS, CMMG, Double Star and Del-Ton, and none of these are (to my knowledge) known for top quality - but I don't know of specific problems with any of them either. Anyone?

Likewise, if I'm really looking for reliability and durability above all else (for a 16" defensive carbine), would I be better off with a good basic mil-style trigger or with the Geissele SSA, which purports to be designed for reliability above all else?

I had Bill Springfield do a 3# trigger for a varmit rifle. Love it. 50.00$ and fast turn around. 200+ rounds and no problems.

Depends on what weight you deem suitable for self defense/shtf.

You can either pay $35 for the 4lb job or $50 for the 3lb job. I got the 3lb job on mine. In addition to the lighter break it'll also be cleaner and the pretravel and overtravel will be shortened.

Personally i' think if you're looking for the most reliable trigger upgrade then having Bill work over your stock trigger would be the way to go.

+1 Outstanding AR15 trigger job on my DPMS. I purchased the #4lb trigger job...smooth and crisp.
Bill
