Most reliable 'modern' looking .22lr

I like both my Walther P22 and my SIG Mosquito. Yes, I pamper them a bit when it comes to ammo, but both are happy with Remington Golden Bullets in the bulk pack as well as the CCI Minimags. My wife also has a P22 and it's her favorite pistol. That''s why we also got the Walther PK380.

For serious target shooting, I would definitely go with the Ruger or Browning; they're more accurate. But for fun plinking and such, it's hard to beat the little Walther and I like the way the SIG fits my hand.

Can't tell if he's trying to minimize the initial expense of getting into shooting or minimize practice expense.

If it's the later, a glock with a .22 conversion kit could be a good idea (or other brand with a conversion kit available). One gun, practice on the cheap, and convert back in about 10 seconds to native caliber whenever he feels like it.

Of course, if he's trying to minimize the initial cost, not a great option.

For what it is worth...I've always found both Ruger and Browning .22 pistols to be quite modern looking. They have that long slender barrel (usually) that gives it a sleak modern look. My FIL had a Colt Woodsman...same deal...long slender barrel (not tapered though IIRC), the pronounced angle to the grip. All fine looking modern guns with all-steel time tested chops behind them.

Today's ultra modern looking .22s are often made of zinc for crying out loud.

I'm with Viking, that tricked out Buckmark is topnotch;)

Q: "Doesn't Olympic Arms make a polymer-frame copy?"

A: Yes, but it's not particularly reliable. The original Wolverine is, however. And it still looks cool.

My point on the Umarex-made, pot-metal P22 is that you can do a whole lot better. The P22 is the Bic lighter of handguns, IMO; use it till it wears out, then throw it away and get another ... or a SIG Mosquito, if you want to change things up a bit. If that is your idea of a quality firearm, have at it and more power to you. If you want a quality .22 handgun that you can use, and use and use and use and use some more, and then hand down to your son or grandson one day so that he, too, can use and use it, you'll look well beyond the P22 and its ilk. Colt, Browning, Ruger -- all are well-made and will last you a lifetime.

I have a MkII and a Buckmark Camper. The are reliable and accurate and just a small step back from my S&W41 in performance.

Good looks in guns goes to the 1911/22. I would like that even if it didn't shoot well.

Now then, how do I get at job shooting for Bar-Sto?

The only .22 pistol I have these days is a Kimber conversion for my Kimber 1911.
Ageless style, fullsize, sweetest trigger you'll find.

Of course I might be a bit biased....

I'm not going to pay the prices they charge for a zinc alloy slide.

My vote is for the CZ Kadet. If you already have a CZ75, you can get a Kadet Kit and have two guns in one.

My replacement for my Buckmark... Beretta 87 Target. Handles like a service pistol, will out shoot most everything suggested so far.
