Not a whole lot of jobs, especially with the border shut down. I was able to get a job with amhc,so could try there. Also a lot of store fronts for sale super cheap, so if you could come up with covid resistant store ideas, that’d work too. What’s the job market like there? I’m almost at a position in life to move out of my current state.
Yeah I’m really hoping it lasts and they eventually get a conservative governor. The town I’m in is voting to become a “sanctuary town” for 2nd amendment, we’ll see how that goes. I can’t have the mass laws follow me, can’t go back to approved weapon rosters and awbs. One thing to keep an eye on is that the state is very close to becoming a second Massachusetts. Their current governor is not gun friendly and the Covid restrictions are downright tyrannical. Geographically the state is gun friendly but the southern part of the state has the population to decide everything. I'd be very surprised if constitutional carry survives there.
Looks like Smith and Wesson has openings for machine operators (traditional and CNC) in Houlton. What’s the job market like there? I’m almost at a position in life to move out of my current state.
Congrats on escaping the people's republic. When you say "northern Maine" you weren't kidding around. How wide is the St. John river there? Can you throw a rock across it?
I sure hope LePage does run again. But as said, the Boston types are all moving to the sticks, buying up every acre around, building McMansions and complaining that the town doesn't pick up their trash. Tele-commuting just may kill southern ME and NH. But look at the bright side. None of the rural PDs can fully man their rosters as they can't compete with wages being offered in larger towns/cities. Even the state police are short handed. So hopefully, no one will have the man power to waste time enforcing the edicts of Augusta.
I'm down on the "gold coast" and the cost of living (primarily property taxes) are getting pretty steep.
I hope they open the border soon, we really wanted to take our daughter on a road trip to Quebec City.
Back in the late 50's, early 60's, Navy had an Escape and Evade/Survival school for Pilots/aircrew in the Rangley Lakes area. October in Maine is not a real fun time to visit. It certainly was a bleak experience...later, with PanAm, we used Bangor for a quick fuel stop with our Airbus A310's...almost a touch and go, it was so fast! That and Lobster runs back in my salad days are my only experience with Maine. Never met an unfriendly one either.
