Movie shotgun question

In the late 1980's Vietnam flick "Platoon Leader", one of the characters ("Roach", I think) uses a pump shotgun. It's been a while, but it looked like a Winchester 1200. Anybody recall this one?

I thought it was a Ithaca 37.

I was probably too involved in the dialogue, the plot, the acting, to pay attention to guns.

I some what remember the movie but not what shotgun Sergeant Roach was carrying? I do remember the part where he did a combat load by inserting a shell in the open ejection port and quickly closing the action then firing. So it wasn't a Ithaca Mod 37 in that scene. He could of used one in the next few scences since Hollywood is not consistant when it comes to factual firearms accuracy. I need to rent this movie again soon........

Good point, I forgot that scene, he sure did. Then later I recall the shells ejecting downward...didn't they???

The forearm I am remembering was the "rattail" like the Ithaca 37, the Model 12, some 97's. The 1300...humm...

Very well could have been a 1300 with that forearm and ability to load as he did.

Good question - making us think for sure.

I 'll have to watch the movie again now dammit. I may be wrong about this but think I read one time the Army had some old Stevens pumpguns in their inventory back then. Do know a friend of mine carried a Win model 97 at some times while there.

Win mod. 12

The military used the Winchester model 12 for years due to it's ability to fire rapidly, not resetting the trigger between pumps. The old Ithaca model 37's were the same way. Just hold the trigger down and keep pumping.

Don't forget, this was a movie and the prop master and continuity guys easily fall asleep at the wheel, mix up gear, and then say, "Screw it. The audience won't know the difference anyway".

Easily could have been a Model 12 in one seen and a Ithaca in the next. Especially in such a high budget, high quality, award winner like "Platoon Leader".

It must have been a winnie 1200...it had that v-notch in the receiver, and 1300s I don't believe were yet in production...but like Gunsnrovers says...
