I had to move a year ago because of job issues and I lost my ability to shoot in my yard. I had to drive to the range to shoot instead. It isn't that far but it's not the same as walking out the door to shoot.

Now I'm moving again and I'll have an even better place to shoot. No crybaby, dopehead neighbors to worry about. A mile of fields and woods behind the creek bank I'll be shooting into. And that creek bank is straight up at least 7 or 8 feet in places making for an ideal backstop except I have to cross the creek to put up targets. Maybe I can just hang them higher with the bank straight behind them.

I'm just tickled pink though. I was supposed to have a place to shoot where I live now but it didn't work out that way. My landlord is a bit optimistic on what a good place to shoot looks like.

Oh well. I never had that much ammo to shoot for the last year anyway. I'll have to go down the hill to shoot but that's what my truck is for. It beats driving to the range any day. It's great to live in the country.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that you had rough times with your job, but I love your attitude. You are ending up in a better situation in the end, having gone through your struggles.

My Wife's family has a cabin in the forest, with an abandoned camp next to it being the only structure for miles. They have an archery range that has a perfect backstop, and stands all set up still. I love taking my kids there, about the safest place on Earth. I hear you that there is nothing like stepping outside your door and being able to shoot.

Glad to hear things are better for you. Good luck, be safe.

I still own my cabin in the woods. I actually didn't even need to step outside to shoot. I have sat in my favorite chair and shot out the door many times. In the winter I slide my door open just enough to stick the barrel of a rifle out and shoot all day sometimes. I'll be going back there before too long. But I can't really complain about the place I live now or the place I'll be living in a couple of weeks or so. Both are very nice. Both are rural areas. They aren't the deep woods like where my cabin is but very few places are. I miss the bears but I have lots of coyotes to shoot at. Now I'll have a better place to shoot at them. It's a rural area here but it's farm land. My cabin is in the hills so shooting is much easier. There's always a hill around to stop your bullets. There are some hills where I'm going with nothing behind them for a mile. There are hogs here too. I've heard a couple of them where I live right now. It's a nice area I'm moving to also. I'll be living right across the road from a place that looks just like a Bluegrass region horse farm. It looks a whole lot like this place but this isn't it. I got this photo from this web page. I'm a lot farther back than this photo is though which is a good thing IMO. It's a mile behind that place before there's another house too. The land I'll be living on looks a lot like this place but without the fences and the mansion. It's a nice house though. Very nice I guess. I've actually wanted to move around some anyway. I've lived in my cabin for 25 years. That's enough for a while. There are other nice places to live.

BTW here's a photo of my cabin. I had to cut most of the oak trees around the house because of oak wilt. They were all dying so I sold them instead of watching them fall down. It's grown back up mostly now.
