I have a question I haven't been able to answer using the search feature. I have had a Firearms permit in GA for about 8 years. I'm moving to TN very soon and would like to know if I will have to re-apply for a TN permit as a non permit holder, or can the GA permit be transfered to a TN permit in a simpler process?

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

My friend moved from Florida and he told me that he was obligated to apply for a Tn. permit. There is a $$$ issue ($50 at the time) with this one and Tn. wants its cut of the dough.

He didn't have to take the class or go through the practical shooting portion but he did have to wait about 60 days for the permit to come from Nashville.

The laws are somewhat different so you better bone up on them. Tn. has a lot to be desired compared to Ga. in some respects. In others, it has Ga. beat.

Look at the Tennessee Firearms Association web site for more information.

I suspect that you will have to take the class and apply for the handgun carry permit from scratch. As I recall, the certificate from the class is only good for 6 months or something like that. But, transferring your permit only makes sense and more than likely you would skip the class portion of the process. I also seem to remember that if you let your TN permit expire without renewal, then you are back to square one in the process again. The TN permit is a very good permit to have as it seems to be accepted in many states.

I moved from GA to TN six years ago. I did have to take the class and go to the Highway Patrol office to file my paperwork and turn in my GA permit. My fingerprints did transfer from GA to TN. If you will be in the Murfreesboro area,There local range teaches an outstanding course. Byron
