I ll be leaving the beautiful state of WA to move to the beach in NC within the next couple weeks. I have a rifle, shotgun, 2 pistols, body armor and will be riding a motorcycle across. I would like to have at least one of the pistols with me, but Ive been trying to make sense of the different state laws until my head hurts. If I stick to google maps, I ll be going through the following states.ID, MO, WY, SD, MN, IA, IL, IN, OH, WV, VA and NC. I do have a WA CC permit. Anybody have any advice?

Best bet is to go to www.handgunlaw.us and print out the info page on each state. Just before you get to the next state, pull out that sheet and read through it. If you don't have a permit valid in that next state, (and that state doesn't allow unlicensed vehicle carry) unload your gun and lock it away in your saddlebag or whatever in accordance with FOPA rules.

NC is a wonderful state, and I do love the beaches of the Outer Banks. Some of their laws will take some getting used to, though.

Welcome to the lowcountry. I'm from SC but its the same type area. BEWARE You are going to find the humidity to be oppressive and it will make you realize just how important stainless is for guns, trailers, and everything else that spends time outside of conditioned space.

As a WA resident who frequently visits the carolinas, I can confirm Safetychain's recommendation. Even the olympic rain forests have nothing on the humidity out there :)

Thanks for the warning guys but Im from VA and lived in Charleston SC for 6 years while I was in the Navy in the late 90's. Dont think I dont take a deep breath every time I reflect on 100% humidity days, and those damn mosquitos, theyre insane. Its gonna be a big adjustment though, this week up here, it finally hit 70 degrees and I swear I was sweating my you know what off. Much like the 90 degree days felt down there. At least it wont be rainng everyday. Anyways, I do miss the east coast pretty bad, lots of friends and family and hopeful some type of employment, because it got sucked outta here quick.

We've had a fire ant invasion down here, too. The things are awful. I don't think anything short of napalm kills them when you live in the sandhills, they just relocate.

On the backside of an irrigation pond (where no upkeep occurs) adjacent to my property (farm land) they sometimes grow so dang big that you can use them for 100 yard targets with iron sights.

In regards to the humidity...I started exercising (regularly), lost some fat and started eating a little more healthy and it no longer bothers me so much.

Hey man! Guess you will be in the area soon. If your near the Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point areas I can give you the ins and outs of the local gun shops and a few of the ranges.

Good luck with your trip!
