Location
Above your House in a Black Helicopter/ But I live
I am moving to my last location on this earth in the next 6-12 months from one of the top 3 worst states to live in and have been over come trying to pick the best location. Taxes are a great concern and insurance also combined with my rights, I would like a minimum of 20 acres with 2-3 beds for $300,000. Although I could wave the size of the property if in coastal areas.
My head is begining to spin trying to make a choice VA,NC,GA.FL,TN,KY,AR,WV are my top choices Please give me your thoughts I expect the most 20-30 years with Luck my life span

Thanks for your time /Jim

Just retired early from state gov so far no need to work just keep busy

Are you retiring from the military, where access to an exchange and a veterans hospital are a factor, and finding a full-time job is not too high on your list?

VA is pretty dang good. open carry (no license) and easily obtained concealed permit. we have a few dumb rules 1 handgun a month (waived with carry permit) and ONLY open carries in alcohol serving establishments (almost all restaurants). taxes are low; but we do have a car-tax so if you have a couple bentley's it ads up. 300k will get you alot as long as you stay out of northern va (fairfax, loudoun etc.)

i think when we are all talking up our states we should have to boil it down to one thing for the original poster.

for VA it is a 2 deer a day bag limit! and you can pretty much get as many tags as you want :)

I think you have selected a pretty good list of candidates.

http://www.govspot.com/know/incometax.htm

Seven states have no state income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. Two others, New Hampshire and Tennessee, tax only dividend and interest income.

FL has one thing going for it - because of the huge population of senior citizens, medical care geared towards that group is plentiful, housing and taxes are considerably lower than many places, there is no state income tax, we have Castle Doctrine, homestead exemptions, nice beaches. Depending on the area, your 20 acres and 3bed house can be had for under 300K

Downsides can be the high humidity, hurricane/thunderstorms (lightning capital in central FL), flat terrain.

In between, depending on your likes/dislikes - milder winters, no snow, lower wages than most places.

I like to go on cruises to the Carib. We are close enough, we drive down to the port - makes it easy for a quick three-dayer, or an extended 14 day one

I've lived and traveled from Washington to Louisiana, but Alaska has everything else beat. The only downside is she can actually kill you. Good way to die if you ask me, and it's how I plan on going.

Arizona is good for gun laws, second only to Alaska. Hunting is okay, and you can get plenty of land. We have good medical care here, too. Only downside is the heat.

Well, I live in Virginia and if I was to move again I would consider Tennessee. I like both states for their scenery ( I love mountains and forests). The other states you list may be just as nice, I just haven't gotten over to see them myself. As mentioned, Virginia gun laws are more "reasonable" than a lot of other states, I'm not sure about Tennessee.
