Moving to Kentucky (Kentucky Residents Please Chime In)

In the two weeks I have been here from Michigan people have asked me what is in Michigan. I say pretty much everything that is here, except for the hills.

And the western part of KY is the forgotten part of Kentucky! In lots of ways I like that. We live within spitting distance of IL, TN, and MO. Good trails to ride in each state. Lots of outdoor activities. People know their neighbors. I work in Paducah for a large, national company. Our little division has won several national awards in the years I have been here for outstanding customer service and customer satisfaction as measured by independent research. The folks in the bigger cities always seem surprised. Most couldn't find Paducah on a map, let alone understand how our customers could like us so much. Well, it's the culture around here. Call it old fashioned. But, folks take pride in an honest day's work and treating other folks right. It shows. It also shows if "northerners" move in and don't adopt those ways. So, if you're fixin' to move in, please consider adopting these ways. Folks will give you every chance to do right. Then, it's up to you.

I know about Paducah because my cousins work for Ingram Barge, and I heard of it before that because of a school shooting.

You realize this thread is two and a half years old right?

Having said that, I grew up in Loo-uh-vul. Left KY when I joined the Air Force, moved to Michigan when I got out. Went back to visit a few years ago. I honestly would not mind moving back. Michigan has been goign down hill for a long time.

Grew up in E KY and live across the river and no problem with firearms, everyone has them. Ashland is about 1/2 hr drive for me. This thread may be a little old but as of today the tri-state area is gun friendly and the people are great. After moving around and working in DC for 16 yrs I got lucky and transferred to Huntington, just a few miles down Rt 23 to where I grew up.

I live in the Huntington-Ashland metro area thingy...we all just call it the tri-state. I've done a most of my actual gun buying in KY, pretty easy to deal with, which so is my home state of WV :)
If your moving to this area shoot me a pm and ill help you with locating all the decent shops and trading spots. Also places to shoot.

Welcome to the great state of Kentucky. We love guns, hunting, fishing, and UK Wildcats.

In Kentucky, you don't have to register guns. A background check will be performed if you don't have your CCW and are buying from a dealer. If you are buying or selling from a personal owner, nothing is required.

You can keep a pistol in your glove box or in plain view on the seat of your car/truck without it being considered concealed.

If you are going to get your CCW here, be patient. After taking the class and submitting in the paperwork, I had to wait 8 months for mine to come in.
