Moving to RI

Here’s the issue, I am getting transferred and I am scheduled to leave the end of next week. While I am currently stationed in CA , I will be in New Port, Rhode Island for about 6 months. I was there before, but didn't know where I could shoot or buy things. Additionally is their anything that I can't have there? I will be able to pick up my EBRs and such if there won't be a problem.
When I was their five years ago or so, I remember a store telling me I had to have Police permission to buy ammo . Was the guy blowing smoke, or is their anything else I should know?

I've bought bullets, propellant and, IIRC, cartridges in Rhode Island and I don't even live there.

Like I said, at the time that is what the guy at the store said, and I was "younger and dumber" then and didn't follow up any more.

packing.org has State info.It usually mentions other weapons also.It appeared to me it could be difficult to get a pistol permit depending on what Police Chief you dealt with,and you had to show a need.They supposedly have a more pro-gun Attorney General now that is issuing permits.As far as a knife.I think they limit it to 3 inches concealed carry.
